Was your aunts macaw a greenwing macaw? They tend to live around 60-80 years, macaws like the blue and gold macaw (the one in the video) live around 40-60 years. Your aunts macaw lived to a very long age though, even for the species!

Having a macaw is a big commitment, they need to have space to fly and mental stimulation in the form of toys and being taught to speak. The starting life expectancy with good care is late 50s; many live longer. On the speaking front, try not to teach the bird swear words first, otherwise it might come out with them at an inopportune moment! Rows in front of the bird are not good either as they are sensitive and often repeat it again at the most inconvenient time.

I read a funny bit from an askreddit for zookeepers; a zookeeper would have ibs and would run to the bathroom screaming "I need to s**t!" and the bathrooms were next to the parrot aviary. One parrot learned to say that and that bird would go to birthday parties...and that bird no longer does because of learning that phrase.

Not a fan of those kind of clippers. We have a 17 year old scarlet macaw and her vet uses a little grinding tool to trim her nails and beak. Freaking love those birds. Color blind people aren't actually color BLIND. It's more color confused. They can still see colors but they see them differently than regular people. Light shades of colors meld together and look the same, also a bright blue might look purple or orange may look yellow to a color blind person.

Parakeet beaks are usually quite a bit softer than a macaw’s, so as long as you give him lots of stuff to chew on, and plenty of variety of materials (so he doesn’t get bored), he should be fine. The chewing will help keep his beak nice and healthy.

I cringed as he clipped the bird’s beak the way he did. There are so many nerve endings in the beak and trimming it should only be done under anaesthetic as it would be very painful for them. Also, it’s best to be filed down over being cut to mimic the natural erosion of the beak.
