Dr. Rhodes is introduced to his new superior, Dr. Latham, who informs him he wasn't his first choice. Later Dr. Latham explodes when Dr. Rhodes seems to speak out of turn.

Dr. Manning and Dr. Halstead treat a pregnant patient from a car accident and are forced to perform an emergency cesarean on her. Meanwhile, Dr. Choi adjusts to his new role as Chief Emergency Resident, Dr. Reese accepts a psychiatry residency offer from Dr. Charles, and Dr. Rhodes is introduced to his new superior, Dr. Latham, who informs him he wasn't his first choice. Also, Dr. Manning and new medical student Jeff Clarke connect, which infuriates Dr. Halstead.

I think they are trained for things like that probably just in case an emergency surgery outside the hospital were they are lots of different distraction but i agree very dangerous.

To all my South Africans🇿🇦, did you hear how Dr Latham mentioned Groote Schuur Hospital(but he pronounced it wrong lol🙈) for those who don't know is that Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, is a world renowned hospital in which the world's first heart transplant took place and was lead by Dr. Christiaan Barnard and Dr. Hamilton Naki. University of Cape Town Med School and Groote Schuur is the cradle of heart surgery here in Africa🙌🏽👏🏽👏🏽.

He was obviously overreacting, maybe due to his asperger. But he got a point. He was the leader of the procedure. Being second guessed for more than 1 time is not productive and wasting precious time. If he'd consider the opinion, he would in the first mention. If not, he's not gonna change his mind even if it's repeated 100 times....

The funniest thing about this show is a highly educated doctor walking around without being diagnosed with Autism and the fact that these doctors and nurses don't immediately recognise it in him and act more appropriately. Lathem just needs to say hello and everyone would know 😂

NHS don’t even know how to deal with people with autism when they’re patients lol. The amount of times they tried to get me sectioned on “mental health” when I got overstimulated by the beeping of machinery or making me shower or pee with someone in the room because I’m a “risk”…degrading as hell from such uneducated people.

People with aspergers can learn to recognize traits that others have but they don't. An old class mate of mine was very good at recognizing sarcasm, he spend hours and hours learning how it works.

Pattern recognition. Latham may not have intuitively understood Rhodes' sarcasm, but he did think through how little sense it made for him to "confess" to killing others.

He feels things but he just has trouble recognising others emotions and social cue’s because he is on the spectrum of autism, specifically Aspergers syndrome which is a type if autism :) its very normal, hope this helped!

Latham is at this point, an undiagnosed aspie. Children of low-income, immigrant, and minority parents tend to be diagnosed much later in life. I didn't like how they portrayed him because I just got into the series and I read about him, but when I found out he was undiagnosed, I understood why he acted the way he did. Treatment (which is mostly therapy if you're a mild case, AKA Asperger's) does help you learn better social skills.

I have Asperger’s too and as we’re very smart we have a hard time dealing with a lot of people especially when sensory overloads kick in it’s pretty impressive he made it into becoming a cardiovascular surgeon tho it proves to anything in life is possible!

If you mean Latham, he does have emotions, he is not just good at expressing them. He also has limited social and communication skills, and need certain routines, because he is on the autism spectrum. Still, what he did, shouting and throwing things during surgery, was extremely unprofessional and should have led to a formal warning. It doesn´t matter how skilled he is or what issues he has. He could have hurt his co-workers or the patient. Dr Latham is an interesting character, but IRL a behavior like that would have been unacceptable. A surgeon must handle stress or disagreements better than that. To make it worse, Rhodes did nothing wrong, he just asked if he was sure.

@@deceitfulmat2411 he’s autistic and so struggles severely in social situations, hence the strange questions and all around strangeness in how he acts around others, autistic ppl get very frustrated when things arent how we normally do them bcs we rely so heavily on routine, dr Ls outbusts are most likely from his autism and so the hospital has to excuse them as its a disability he cant do anything about
