Taught by animals and their owners, this world-renowned animal nutritionist exposes the 900-pound gorilla sitting in many pet food bowls. Find out why the most economical - and most popular - approach to feeding pets may appear to meet your pet's needs today but implode on you later.
Dr. Richard Patton, a favorite nutritionist of the fresh feeding community, believes that “nutrition is never a crisis” - but it can lead to one over time
The “900-pound gorilla in the room” when it comes to processed pet food is excessive levels of soluble carbohydrates.
The primordial diet of dogs and cats, which evolved from the wild world, contained very little in the way of soluble carbs; discarding it will naturally have consequences.
No one, including AAFCO, is measuring the lifetime nutritional adequacy of commercial pet food.

Thank you Karen because of you my Molly is now 7 1/2 and fed raw since I got her. Our vet is amazed at how healthy and vibrant she is. She also had 6 puppies we kept 2 and they are all fed raw. They are the smartest healthiest puppies my vet has seen. They are now almost 3 years old and they are so calm, so sweet and so incredibly healthy.

Thank you Dr. Becker, I found your KZfaq channel, I think in 2006 or 2007. My two large breed dogs were given homemade, human grade food along with a high-quality kibble, supplements and vitamins twice a day until their deaths in 2020, and 2021. They lived relatively disease free except for old age arthritis. Those dogs enjoyed their meals. I find it ironic that more of the dog food manufacturers are selling "human grade food". I will continue to share your information with other pet owners. You are a breath of fresh air.

dianne8340: My confusion is why you would include kibble with your raw diet? Why not just a little more raw diet?

@@sheilasmith7779yes! In my opinion there’s NO SUCH THING as quality kibble.

When Dr Becker was talking about the similarities between kibble and cereal, may want to check our Dr Kellogg, a Seventh Day Adventist, and the creator of Kellogg’s Corn flakes cereal and the reason he created it. Dr Anthony Chaffee has a short video on this….very telling.

I watch the carnivore dr’s too. Makes it re think EVERYTHING!! I believe kibble is animal junk food. They can get addicted just like we can.

Thank you for sharing this knowledge with us! My dog has been on raw since he was two because of you. Now he’s 8 years old and he looks good for his age. I honestly think it has a lot to do with his diet!!

I get that he wants to focus on the carbohydrate issue but I really wish he would’ve gone on to explain the rest of the nutritional requirements and issues in deficiency and excess for those of us who are already aware and have made changes in regards to carbohydrates but want to make sure we’re doing the rest of it to the best of our ability. Thank you both for this though! Really great information for what he was willing to discuss.

Excellent interview. I appreciate all that you two and others are doing to spread the word about fresh food for pets. However, I don’t think that fresh food prices will ever go down. Because money talks. Take Farmers dog. I’m sure they have made enough money to reduce the price, but it’s all about the money and getting bigger! Which is a shame . They should follow the Walmart way, reduce the price and get more people on board. There’s your success. Thank you so much for the excellent interviews.

Thank you Drs. Becker and Patton for this informative video. If anything, I think one good thing that has come from the whole DCM scare and the (often very aggressive) public debate on either end of the dog nutrition spectrum, is that it gave us a stronger push away from maintaining the status quo of pet food and looking more into what can be improved (especially when it comes to the larger public). But I think that's also why it is crucial now to find a good balance between pushing for better pet food but also staying in step with the current status of scientific knowledge. Thank you both for contributing to this 🙏 I wanted to pass on a question to you that I get a lot whenever the topic of feeding raw comes up with someone. The argument against raw/fresh is often: "Feeding 'as nature intended' is a marketing gimmick. Look at animals in nature and how they live significantly shorter than pets on commercial pet foods." What would be a good scientifically backed answer to that?

Feed your pets real whole food mostly animal, meat, skin, bone, organs, eggs, fish, modest vegetables. There is no reason people cant afford to feed their pets raw chicken, pork, eggs, etc at least one meal a day.

There are many people that can’t afford raw diet meals, Evan once a day. The cheapest kibble you can buy is so cheap …… so people on a very low budget will buy it…….unfortunately!

@@Lucky-wt6fg then they shouldnt have pets. How are they going to afford shots even every 3 years, ivermectin for heart worm prevention. My 20 lb fox terrier requires 8 oz of meat a day that is like 2 chicken theighs, a couple dollars a day and that is far cheaper for what you are getting than the best commercial garbage and cheaper than old roy.

@@Lucky-wt6fg This is no excuse. They shouldn't have pets. This is so selfish. These are low life people. I have no compassion for them. You are probably one of them, destroying the lives of these beautiful animals that are gifts.

@janegreen191 Shame on you Jane, to refer to a person commenting as, "low life." I agree, if we can't food quality food to our children or pets, we should not have them. The poorest people have smart phones, so give something up to feed your family well. Jane, let's persuade rather than attack.
