"The research was set up with a control group versus an experimental group and we tested our hypothesis of whether the use of BrainWare was going to have any impact on the neurological processes, that is, the underlying cognitive processes that affect reading and math. And second, whether it had an impact on the actual academic areas. And it was just wonderful. The joy that I had with my own son I've seen with every single child. Those children, as soon as they walked into the school.... 'Ms. Sarah, Ms. Sarah, could you come again? When are you coming again? When are we playing again? No, I don't wanna finish the game. I want more. I wanna finish more.' And I said, 'But it's going to get harder.' 'It's OK. I wanna get better. It's gonna make me better at school.' Hearing those voices still gives me the passion. It's just so amazing.
"We did a pretest using the Woodcock-Johnson and we looked at all of the different cognitive processes and then a post test at the end of of the use of BrainWare and we compare them to the control group. The difference was staggering. There were significant differences in almost every single underlying cognitive process. I really looking to see if there would be a difference in processing speed, and there was, as well as in short-term memory, which was very good news, as well and auditory processing. I had seen the changes for my son in real life, but to see it on paper with significant increase compared to the control group!
"I feel that there's a miracle that kind of unfolds. One time I remember there was this one parent who asked me why I as so excited. I told her, 'Did you ever go into a dark room and then you lit a little light -- OK we're in the holiday season when this is happening -- so it's like you kindle this little flame and all of a sudden whatever you didn't see in this room is now visible. It's almost like that what happens with BrainWare. It kindles a part of the brain which is like -- I love this game and I'm sure you all know the gear game -- it has lots of gears and you have the little turnkey. When you turn the key, all the gears work together and the brain is almost like that.
"At that time, there were six students that were going to join Arrowsmith [a school that incorporates cognitive training in the curriculum]. The parents of one didn't have the necessary funds to cover the expense. Another child was already in the program but had such a hard time keeping the pace in each of the functions and time blocks that were required. it was very very very difficult for the child. The parents were fully committed but it was still a very big challenge. The child had done, I think, five months of it and the mother didn't see any progress and she was also seeing much more frustration. So, when the BrainWare study came up, she joined. What the parents have seen, much faster, is more stability -- the child was not jumping around at everything -- the anger management was there -- and she was just much more content with herself."
