This is a great, full of information and a helpful video, perhaps it would be more useful if whenever you’re talking about a specific problem you attach some pictures pointing to that specified point you’re explaining , this would help A LOT especially for beginners (like myself), it would really help us to know the type of problem our plants have. Thank you so much for this wonderful channel.

I bought a beautiful Draceana Lemon Surprise from Costco. A couple of the bottom leaves had been sniped, it had been watered (probably not with our hard water) thoroughly. I'm in Canada. It's cold, I wrapped it up in cloth shopping bag to keep it warm while going outside. The next morning it had blackening leaves. I took it out of the outer bowl to let it dry better, trimmed some of the dead areas and have put it in a diffused light area of my home.

Thank you so much! My husband brought home one from the store that had mites. He didn’t realize the browning leaves that looked like new growth in the crown! I’ve been racking my brain to what the issue was this whole time. Nowhere could I find anything on this. Just over or under watering or chlorinated or fluoride waters. This helps me so much. I was hoping been oil solution wiping down my plants would get rid of these guys. The same thing tends to happening with my monstera deliciousa black leaf tips.

Can you have an episode on watering or Q&A on watering? I follow experts' advice to water, that is, water when the top of soil is an ^inch or two^ dry - and to me it's bone dry, meaning I don't feel moist at all in the finger I dig in - so typically I water 10-14 days during summer on typical houseplants eg dracaena, sansevieria, pothos, African milk tree. My plants grow fine but I won't say they grow great, for one they they grow very slowly, and the look of the plants is just OK or only good. Then two friends of mine water in ways that are against all plant experts' suggestions. They water their plants (‎sansevieria, dracaena, umbrella plants, Pilea, pothos) once a week, when the soil ^surface^ just feels a bit dry (but it is still moist to me) and they would pour a cup or two of water around in. That's it. Their plants grow beautifully. We are in similar growing environment - same city, indoor, with mine in east facing window while theirs either north facing window or office lightening (and low light during the weekend). For example, my Dracaena Deremensis 'Janet Craig' just grow 3 to 5 leaves during 9 months since winter and my friend's is already twice as tall and full during the same period. So I'm very puzzled by plant experts' do and don't on watering. Thanks.

Really well explained and straight to the point, thanks for taking the time to clearly talk about this! I have a Dracaena fragrans at home which stayed in the same pot soil for about two years, I moved from a warm/cold place to a really hot and humid one. After moving, my Dracaena started to look weak so I tried to repot her, when I took the plant out of the soil , it had very few roots and all of them looked brown and completely hollow. I've been avoiding over watering and direct sunlight, used new soil and a bigger pot than before but the plant just keeps looking worse and worse, all of her leaves dried and have fallen, the steam lost all the green color, turning black and brown. Is it really dead now? Was it my fault during repotting? was it already dead beyond ways to help her? I'm feeling pretty bad about this, she's been with me for a while...

Excellent ty! I live in Florida and there r a lot of different species of this plant and easily grow outside in pots or in the ground. Ur explanations in all ur videos are very clear and lot of info. Other videos r not so informative. I would have liked to have seen the actual plant with these problems, or pictures. That’s all, otherwise excellent videos for this plant, I e watched a few. I had been overwatering mine. I let it dry out well between watering, but still getting brown edges. One other thing, after making a cut at brown, it just keeps getting worst. Idk why

My dracaena has started to have withered leaves. It’s definitely not the root rot, but very likely broken off roots. I might have damaged it with excessive moving of the plant while re-potting and then moving around for best spot. The plant was not very stable in the new soil. If the damage to the roots is bigger then slight - what are the chances that the plant will recover to better condition and ability to absorb water properly? Is the root system of a dracaena rebuilding itself after breaking of? Thank you

I just threw out half my dracena. It was fine for a long time. Then I noticed tiny triangular white things on it. They were smaller than the head of a pin. I carefully washed them off, but it seemed that the plant was dying back from the top. The leaves were falling off by the handful. There was a bad smell in my flat and I thought it was something else, but today when checking the plant I noticed a kind of wet pulpiness under the outer skin of the stem. I realized pretty much the whole stem was turning to a kind of liquid goo. I pulled out the whole plant, leaving the healthy-looking smaller plant in the pot. I guess that odd stench was the plant drying back. Nasty. The little white spots weren't moving and I couldn't see any bugs, just those dandruff-flake-looking things stuck to the stem and where the leaves need the stem. Can't find any description of this online. The dracena is far from the rest of my plants and they are all fine. What happened?

I am learning a lot of new things about plats, so thank you very much. I live in easten Spain and here the water comes with a lot of calcifomi salts, so it's easy to get that white "crystals". We can't do the "water cleaning " process to get rid of eat (I understand what you are talking about with the soil's clean off with water when you are burning the plant with nutrients). Are those calcium like particles damaging as well?

Thank you for this! My dracena deremensis has been acting up for the last three weeks. I'm in zone 7 so it is 30F outdoors this time around. I have a humidifier running all day. It gets indirect sunlight from the south west about 8.5ft away. Which gets a sufficient amount since I have another about the same distance and it growing considerably. The leaves began turning black. Not the brown where it's dry but black. I didn't understand why. I get removing it and don't water it too often. But I have noticed the smell of chlorine in my water. For the past month and half and it is irritating. I do mist it in the mornings for added humidity where the water comes from the tap. Just like you suggested I repotted it and found the soil was bone dry and you could tell by the roots. The water meter I used kept on telling me it had enough water. It was a mixture of dry soil, chlorine water and the water meter which I will replace.
