Almost all special effects in Francis Ford Coppola's "Dracula" have been created without use of CG or optical printing. Take a look how the production team was exploring old filmmaking techniques, as a tribute to 100 years of cinema, and this unforgettable vampire story.

This movie was an instant classic. The use of practical effects was second to none and blows away any CGI effects.

I went to see the Coppola version on a wide screen and slept throughout as I was so tired, I saw it again some time later, loved it. Four years ago I wanted to Watch it again and decided to buy the dvd but on walking the dogs the SAME night I found a brand new copy lying on the pavement !! creepy !

Wow, that was such a ballsy move, to fire all your special fx crew and hire someone so inexperienced? Turned out to be the best decision Coppola made!!!

I saw the Warrens on American Pickers. They pulled out the miniature train used in Dracula. Great video and discussion of the in camera special effects. When I saw it in the theater it became my favorite horror film. Coppola is one of the greatest filmmakers that has ever lived. I'm glad he got what he wanted on this show.

I’ve watched this movie many times (including being fortunate to have seen it upon release on the big screen), but I had never noticed the in-camera effect seen in the background of the shot from 17:06 - I’ll have to look out for that next time I watch it! Any movie that continues to give up new secrets each time you watch it (especially decades later) is a gift.

Though I had heard about a lot of this already, this was a nice step-by-step explanation and analysis, with some info I did not know. This is also my favorite version of Dracula from the acting to the great juxtaposition of beautifully romantic imagery (that's never syrupy) with graphic violent horror (that's not done for it's own sake). The interviews were a great addition. Some of them I'd never seen before. P.S. the one digital effect that was used in this movie was not mentioned. The morphing effect (at the time still emerging) that was used for when, in one shot, the dying Vlad Dracula transforms from his demonic form back to his human form before asking Mina to "give [him] peace." There was no other way to do it.

5:07 …. Yes you can. You always could. It was always obvious, but I thought it added charm to the dark fairytale. Even when I first saw it around the age of 10 I could see it looked like a stage.

Film Drakula paling keren sepanjang masa.

I'm not running VFX classes. If you want to learn online try Fxphd.com for example. As for computer - basically the stronger the better, but of course it depends on your budget. I would recommend AMD Threadripper CPUs and NVIDIA graphic cards.
