The Lions took 3 FREE AGENTS AT DEFENSIVE BACK in the same offseason plus drafted safety Brian Branch. Brian Branch was the only single one to pan out. 2 of the free agents are gone and the one they still had was recovering from an ACL and gets back into the rotation only to tear the other ACL. He’s still with us but….. I’m soooo glad they took 2 cb’s in this years draft!

What Nick Saban said about Burton on draft night: “He is a tremendous competitor,” Saban said on ABC’s NFL draft coverage. “He’s got great quickness. He’s got really good speed. He can come in and out of a break. He can beat man-to-man. “I really, really like this guy, (but) the No. 1 thing that he needs to do - and I think emotional maturity is the best way to say it - is do the right things all the time. He does the right things on the field. He knows the importance of what he has to do in the field. He wants to be a player. That’s all he thinks about. “But you’ve got to do the right things in your life all the time so that you can do the best things that you can do on the field and be the best you can do. … When you get emotional, you make bad decisions and lose your brain.”

A player the Bengals got that’s totally flying under the radar and will have a huge impact on the team is their second 6th round pick the Edge rusher out of Ole Miss Cedric Johnson. I can’t believe he was still available in round 6! Sort of like last year I could not believe that Myles Murphy was available at 29!! You want to talk about athletic. Johnson is 6’3’’ 260 ran 4.63 and has a vertical of 38 inches and pumped out 25 reps in the bench press.

I love Matt Lee. I think he is the teams future starting center. But I’m still lamenting that the Bengals could have gotten the center/guard from Arkansas in round 6. Beaux Limmer. I think at worst Limmer will be a 10 year starter and at best is on a couple of Pro Bowls.

Everyone forget that the Bengals have a WR in their team that ran a 4.25 last year. The UDFA from Auburn. Bo Jackson’s great nephew. Shedrick Jackson. He plays WR and he is fast as lightning. And he isn’t small either. 6’1’’ 196 lbs. 4.25 4O yards dash.

Mckinlley Jackson was not a reach at 97. He was the 2nd best Nose Tackle in this class after Devondre Sweat. He was. He was good at Texas A&M and again you have to look at quality of the opponents you are playing. The SEC is the hardest conference in college football. Jackson can stop The run push the pocket and pressure the QB. What was you guys thoughts on DJ Reader when he came out in 2016? He was a 5th round pick. We used a 3rd round compensatory pick on Jackson. I actually loved the pick and he is who I wanted at 97. Do you know why? Because he would have been gone by the time we picked in round 4.

The debate of measuring the draft from Thursday night through Saturday vs. how the assigned assets are used is interesting with regards to the Bears. If you look at how the assigned assets are used, you have to retroactively give them an A+ for last year's draft since the Caleb Williams and the Iowa punter picks came from the 2023 trade downs. 2024 assets yielded Odunze, Montez Sweat, the Yale OT, Keenan Allen, Ryan Bates, and some scraps. If you measure from Thursday to Saturday, Williams and Odunze is a great draft all by itself. But ultimately, it is about process since injury, fit, supporting cast, play calling, bad luck, etc. will impact the career outcome of the players picked. The process would need to account for where your roster is regarding QB or your ability to make a QB successful: Do you have a top 10 QB? If yes: Great Draft: You trade back for a current and future 1st rnd pick and draft 2 immediate starters at OT, WR, Edge, DT, or CB Good Draft: You pick 2 immediate starters at OT, WR, Edge, DT, or CB Bad Draft: Any other outcome. If no then do you have a good OL and WR group? If yes then is there a high level QB prospect in the draft? If yes: Great Draft: You pick the high level QB prospect with your own pick. Good Draft: You trade up to take the high level QB prospect. Bad Draft: Any other outcome. If no high level QB prospect: Great Draft: You trade back for a current and future 1st rnd pick and draft 2 immediate starters at OT, WR, Edge, DT, or CB Good Draft: You pick 2 immediate starters at OT, WR, Edge, DT, or CB Bad Draft: Any other outcome. If you don’t have a good OL or WR group: Great Draft: You trade back for a current and future 1st rnd pick and draft immediate starters at OT and WR, 2 WR’s, 2OT’s, OT or WR and Edge, DT, or CB Good Draft: You pick immediate starters at OT and WR, 2 WR’s, 2OT’s, OT or WR and Edge, DT, or CB Bad Draft: Any other outcome.

I believe they liked the Bears trading down last year. Analyzing what they did with the assets they had in order to figure out a draft grade, I think, is too narrow. If you are going to start looking at player trades, you really should be looking at the whole offseason, since the only thing missing from making it an offseason analysis is who they signed and let go in free agency. That figures in quite well since you are already looking at the cap situation with the draft picks and who you traded for/away.

@williamhermann6635 You calling the Bears draft garbage tells me everything I need to know about you. They signed/traded for 3 offensive lineman in free agency and still drafted an OT. They also signed/drafted d- line. The GM said this will continue to be addressed before the season. Teams don't have unlimited picks so you do the best with what you have and they drafted well with the 5 picks. Lastly, saying that Odunze doesn't get separation also let's me know everything about you and your football knowledge.

@@RRH22 Lol they added a bunch of nobodies. Ryan Bates? Some 3rd round rookie none of you ever heard of till Poles drafted him? Man miss me with all that. Bears oline is about to get crushed and Caleb will be running for his life. Everyone will blame Shane Waldron but its really on Poles. There were a number of dominant tackles he couldve drafted or he couldve got Dallas Dallas turner to help an almost nonexistant pass rush. But no, Poles had to acquire yet another receiver. Thats 4 hes acquired with serious draft capital in basically 2 years. 1 was already a complete loss of basically a 1st round pick, Keenan Allen is old as dirt and always hurt, I dont believe Odunze is all that either. You build inside out, not outside in. Bears do the exact opposite of what the Packers do which is why the Packers have won 10 games in a row against the Bears and they're not about to stop now.

I didn’t see Burton play much this year. Just against LSU because I watch all LSU game. At 80 on the clock if I’m the Bengals I would have drafted Javon Baker the WR out of UCF who led the Big 12 in receiving yards last year. But the more I hear about Burton the gladder I am that they took him. He has the potential to be WR3 this year and WR2 next year moving forward. After Higgins is gone we still have a big body receiver in Andrei Iosivas who is 6’3’’ 212. And I think Iosivas is going to go off this year too. He will push real hard for the WR3 spot. Next year moving forward it’s going to be Chase, Burton, and either Charlie Jones, Iosivas or Trenton Irwin as WR3.

Usually someone his size has some bad weight not Mims. I think his body fat is around 10-15 percent. The healthy range for men his age is from 9-19%. I believe Orlando and Trent’s body fat is closer to 20-25%. Orlando and Trent are very good athletes because they don’t have to be. They have good feet and are so god dam big with with such long arms that it makes up for whatever they lack athletically. Mims has the same size BUT is also a freak athlete. His RAS is 9.53!!

Thomas is 21 and will be 21 for most of this year. Tez turns 23 on June 6th. Thomas is a good 18 months younger. Tez is 6’2’’ 193 lbs with 33 inch arms ran 4.36 4O and a 10 yard split of 1.54 40 inch vertical and 11 foot broad. Pretty dam good huh. His last year in college he had 41 catches 699 yards and 7 TD’s. Now Brian Thomas Jr 6’4’’ 209 lbs with 33 inch arms 4.33 4O and 1.50 10 yard split, 39 inch vertical 10.5 inch Broad jump. His last year he had around 1100 yards and 17 tds.

I think the point is opportunity cost. He means that he would rather get one of the top rated prospects at other positions that weren't as deep - like edge, OL, DT, CB - and then take a deep threat receiver later, than take Thomas so high. It's not that he thinks Walker is a better prospect overall.

DJ Reader workout was no good either. Every Nose tackle not named Dexter Lawrence doesn’t have a good workout. All of Their RAS scores are low. ALL Of them not named Lawrence or Vita Vea have bad RAS numbers. Lawrence and Veas RAS numbers are misleading though BECAUSE neither Lawrence nor Vita Vea did the vertical leap, broad jump, 3 cone, or 20 yard shuttle. Their RAS was determined stricktly by size and speed and bench. They did no agility testing. Jackson’s RAS is 3.52 but he did ALL the tests. If he had skipped the agility drills like Lawrence and Vea did he would have had an RAS of 7 something. His broad jump was 70th percentile but his vertical was bad. He should not have done the agility and vertical. Again Lawrence and Vea have such high RAS because they did not do the agility drills nor the vertical and broad jump. DJ Reader did all the drills coming out to and he had an RAS of 2.01 lol. Jackson 3.58 Reader 2.01. Reader is dominant. It doesn’t really matter what your Nose tackles RAS is. Again if Jackson had skipped the agility and vertical his score would have been 7.20-7.50. And I for one love that he is 6’1 1/2’’ tall. 6’2’’ because I round up at a half inch or greater. I prefer DTs especially NTs to be 6’-6’3’’. They can get under the pads of these tall ass offensive lineman in the league. Just like how Geno Atkins at 6’1’’ 300 lbs used to get under guards and drive their asses back into the QB. I love that. Check out Michael Pierce. 6’ 350 lbs and it’s hard as a motherfucker to move him. That another reason I like Centers who are 6’1’’-6’4’’. 6’2’’ is the sweet spot for centers because those short stocky DT’s find it harder to get under the pads of a shorter center. Tyler Linderbaum is perfect size for a center. 6’2’’ 305-310.

The Bears were near the bottom in punting last year and got the best punter in the draft. You may undervalue that position but anyone who has played football or truly watches football knows the importance of that position. The Bears got an A because they addressed their needs in the draft and got quality players including the best punter.

Meanwhile, Packers never draft receivers in the 1st round and yet always have awesome receivers. A microcosm of why the Bears are the Bears and the Packers are the Packers.
