Draft horses are gentle giants, and make wonderful riding horses. The reason they aren't ridden is that not everybody wants to be doing the splits while riding. Secondly, lots of people who ride nowadays do it for sports, so they'd rather ride horses built for jumping. Personally, I'm not into the sports. I'd rather have a gentle companion, and would take a draft horse any day.

Draft horses are just amazing to look at. For whatever reason, I can look at an elephant or camel next to a person and not really think about it, but then I see a draft horse next to a person and am blown away by the sheer size, stature, and power that they command.

Just curious: do they inject steroids into these horses? They almost look unreal.
@al624319 күн бұрын
@@shaft5No, this is simply a result of years and years of selective breeding. Furthermore, just like in human competitions, steroids are forbidden. Some steroids are only used for therapeutic purposes under the supervision of a veterinarian.

I think it's because we've always seen what the smaller normal/usual horses look like so we have a comparison to the jacked-up draft horses, emphasizing the difference in their size and power.

My first horse was draft horse. Out of the countless horses I've had, that draft horse was the best. Easiest to ride, most gentle, most intelligent, and best trained.

I'll take the hit on agility and speed any day for a big gentle giant instead!
@oscarbear749820 күн бұрын
@@Starlitsoul0359 and typically you never run a horse, so agility& speed us overrated. typically at events everyone is just has the horse walking since it's just for fun and not out of necessity like in the 1800s. Big horse is like driving a Cadillac, smooth ride 👌

The only time a draft horse doesn't see you as a friend is when you drop armor on them. The ones bred for combat lived for it and had the same sort of excitement as hunting dogs do when you pull out the side by sides

We had a retired Belgian at a horse camp I worked at. He was the most gentle, calm horse we had. We used him for very inexperienced riders. He basically took care of them and nothing startled him. The video didn't identify hot and cold blooded horses. Draft horses are cold and thus very calm.

There used to be a bunch near me when I was little, you could feed them and go on cart rides, they were massive and somewhat intimidating but very cool animals, turned out that they weren’t being properly taken care of behind the scenes though, which was sad.

Draft horses are generally considered what is known as "cold bloods" meaning they are not prone to be highly excitable but likely that it takes more effort to motivate them to do their work.

I recently visited the island of Sark in the English Channel. There are no cars or buses on the island, only tractors and horse-drawn carts. The bed and breakfast where we stayed had a beautiful draft horse called Ronaldo who earned his keep by pulling visitors round the island.
