I modded my $15 keyboard to drag click more cps than @officialtrycs keyboard (SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL) in his original 34 cps spacebar drag clicking video!
On my channel I have a very popular series where I do mods that enable drag clicking (mice mostly & now a keyboard). I've modded the Logitech G502 hero and the Razer deathadder V2, which are both mice that can't drag click, to dragclick & godbridge exceptionally. The G502 for example, which is aptly nicknamed the "A502" is able to register upwards of 80 cps. These mods are done by replacing the the hardware & software of the original mouse with the hardware and software of a mouse that has the capability to register drag clicks & double clicks. In most cases I use a circuit board from a Bloody A70 or A60.
This drag clicking mod, however, is very special because it is done on a keyboard rather than a mouse, which brings in a plethora of new challenges. The drag click mod on a keyboard was by far the hardest mod I've ever done! I had to completely reset and restart my entire drag click modding process at least three times! My plan was to place a microswitch beneath the space bar key cap; therefore, when the space bar is pressed down the key cap will trigger the switch.
I was originally going to have the drag clicks be modulated by the circuit board of my bloody a70 / a60. However, unfortunately, while pretty far into my modding process, I learned that the switch I unsoldered from my bloody A70 was actually dead and unusable. Luckily, I was able to discover that by shorting the back two pins on the bloody a70 switch circut, a click could be registered and bypass the optical circuit.
Upon discovering how to bypass the optical circuit of the body A70 circuitboard to register a click, I decided to attempt to create my own type of switch. I used small copper pipes and flattened them into small copper squares /plates. These conductive copper plates were soldered two the wires that had to be shorted. The contacts that I fashioned worked fine however in practical use they did not work at all for drag clicking. Unlike traditional micro switches such as Omron switches, the switch that I designed which involves two metal contacts had no form of resistance or tensioning (click). Therefore, my switch had no reliable way to reset for the next click during a drag click.
My final solution that eventually worked implemented the same bypass technique but with a normal omron switch instead of two copper contacts. My luck was not good with the previous keyboard I used for the mod so I picked a different one with lower profile switches. This new keyboard turned out to work much better and I was able to install the switch and drag click on it easily.
The bloody a70 circuit was having some strange software issues so I decided to replace it with the circuit board of my $1 office mouse that drag clicks 80 cps (DELL M-UAR DEL7). This worked out much better and allowed for the keyboard to dragclick perfectly fine!
Finally, I was able to beat trycs' original record (34 cps) two or three times on my new keyboard. My max cps was 39 cps! Although trycs has beaten my max cps in more recent videos, I think it is super cool that I was able to beat the cps in his original video! Trycs was a huge inspiration for this mod!
This keyboard is insane at drag clicking and short dragging. The keyboard definitely is able to god bridge, block clutch, and even reduce!
