In drag racing, things can turn bad quickly. Whether you drive a 135 MPH bracket car or a 275 MPH Outlaw Pro Mod, it is important to take every precaution available to ensure the best possible outcome for your safety in the event of an accident.
The driver’s seat is one of the most overlooked components in a race car. In actuality, it is one of the most critical. A seat is not just a place to sit; it should also act as a safety device by keeping a driver positioned securely and absorbing outside energy during a crash.
Making sure that your seat is mounted correctly and that you have the correct equipment installed with it can mean the difference between walking away from a high-seed, high energy crash or ending up in the hospital with severe back injuries from a mild crash with a seat that does not provide adequate support.

Right now on a budget I just have a Home Depot wheelbarrow turned on its end with a black sheet over it. I just had them spray foam me into it while sitting. It was the min-expansion foam though so its a decent fit. I didn't have money for a Hans so I use a travel neck pillow at the moment. The good stuff. I want to get another neck roll like I had on my shoulder pads in school for the 2020 season. Maybe ill look into something better. Why so much $$?? it's like helmets on a motorcycle all my life I've been told if you have a $70 head buy a $70 helmet. Do you want $50 or $1500 between your head and the concrete?

if i fit the cheaper racetech seat and want to upgrade later on would it be a direct swap?? cheers guys

The brackets will be similar but some modding required as widths are different. Most of the narrow ones are 40 cm mount width. Others are 44.

In case anyone is looking today, that racetech 9119 is $4,000. I honestly expected it to be 10 grand after watching Ken Block a while back talking about their $25k seat that is in every WRC. They even have cheaper models for $1-1500. Not that bad honestly when I have to sit in a rock hard Recaro every night we paid that much for at work. Personally, the only way I would pay that much, I have scoured race junk and everywhere to find a used seat from Lizzy Musi. I'll go 4 grand on it but as a collectors item

well recaros are expensive and they made like 50 of them two for every team at the time

Have you used an aluminum helmet for racing? There's a reason why no company offers an aluminum helmet, why would you use any aluminum seat, other than cost?

That seat is a joke. Not enough side support, not even enough area to hold your butt. Just slide under the belts. Look at most road race seats. They do not have tubing frames and are actually made to bolt onto runners if required. As mine always have been. The Racetech seat is proof of the pudding. Though seats with lots of foam are a problem. It collapses in a crash and either you submarine or simply makes the belts loose in effect. Seat width is important, a skinny little bloke or woman needs a seat 3" narrower than a 15 stone bloke. I have seats made from fibreglass that is moulded rough side in. Unfortunatly tested as I backed into a tyre wall at over 100mph. And a customer flipped 3 times from well over 100mph. Neither were broken though After that I would not use the seat again. Most of the bottom range alloy seats from Kirkey, Butler etc are just ok. But do not hold your shoulders let alone your head. IF your shoulders are held properly the head support while ideal is not overly nesecary. And SFI? As a road racer the standards are poorer. Suits,, Proban with underwear is fine but 35 year old standard from FIA. I cannot use my FIA legal double layer wool suit in speedway. Plain dumb!! Many helmets too are quite poor. Seats,, well as above. So many things of inferior grade.

You might need to do a bit of light reading. Porsche, Aston Martin, FORD, Chevrolet, and Dodge all have used them in factory programs. Both for drag racing, road racing, & Bonneville. Drivers have walked away from some horrific crashes using Racetech products.
