Im really hoping Rick Propero is there in the green 2nd gen Rx7 ...and hoping he does well. He won in 2015 shortly after building the car if I remember correctly. Its my absolute favourite car in all drag week to watch go down the track because it leaves absolutely beautifully straight and softer than baby shit everytime. You'd almost think it has something wrong with it but thats how he does it. It looks like it has the 60' and 330' of an 11 second car. Then ends up running 7s if not quicker by now. One interview he said he's capable of 7.30s. But to me that seems awfully quick. When he won in 2015 it ran a best of 8.18 @ about 179.7 with the following setup: 460 cubic inch BBC 7.9 : 1 compression Dual 75mm Turbos 3300lbs He said it was 1600HP and would run 7.50s and likely capable of 7.30s full out with this motor. In 2016 I saw that he had the following Fresh 555 cubic inch BBC Fresh Pair of 88mm Garrett turbos So he won drag week in 2015 and in 2016 he actually came 2nd in his class despite nearly having a complete failure due to having camshaft issues. Luckily he caught that early enough and could just replace the cam and most of the valve train. But it was then using a totally foreign cam that theyve NEVER tested on before. And was far far smaller in both duration and lift. Lift was only .590 lol. Which is a lot smaller than my pretty tame sbc camshaft. Even despite the cam issues...he was able to manage a 7.95 the following day but hes final average was raised to 7.719 ET and 188.82 MPH which wasnt quite enough behind the leader which was at 7.668 ET, 182.052 MPH. A MPH difference of almost 7mph even though he lost...that says a lot. Im VERY eager to see what he does this year. I really hope he comes.
