Thank you for this great series! The footsteps sound more like Clydesdales than detectives. :-)

It's such a joy to hear these episodes; I was born in '55 so too late to enjoy network shows like this. Sad that filthy Fatima cigarette commercials are laced through here, especially knowing that smoking helped kill Jack Webb at a young age.

I was born in ‘56 and the shows wouldn’t at all be the same without those “filthy Fatima” and later “filthy Chesterfield” ads included in the broadcast. Nearly 8 out of 10 adults smoked in 1951 when this was broadcast, and lots of non smokers die in their ‘60’s from heart attacks. Webb was a radio / TV / Movie / screenwriter non-stop dynamo who worked 16 hours a day for decades, I’m surprised he didn’t drop dead at 50. It’s easy to be self-righteous and insist on applying modern values to previous generations. If it was good enough for them at the time it doesn’t bother me.

WOW how amazing, I live in Ecuador here if we got any problems like robbed, murder ECT. You have to camp on the doorstep of the police department to get anything done and insist all the time. Or if you are called to testify you get no protection. I wish they (Ecuador police) could learn from Dragnet

I’m afraid that’s a common issue, and not just in Ecuador. It’s funny how a wad of cash under the table always seems to get them awake enough to do their job.

While most radio shows used one or two sound-effect experts, Dragnet used five: a script clocking in at just under 30 minutes could require up to 300 effects. Accuracy was underlined: The exact number of footsteps from one room to another at Los Angeles police headquarters were mimicked, and when a telephone rang at Friday's desk, the listener heard the same ring as the telephones in Los Angeles police headquarters.

Been going to sleep with this show for a few weeks. I started having dreams of smoking non filter cigarettes and a big brother who sounds like Jack Web.
