I don't ever comment on KZfaq videos but I have to say THANK YOU for this. I was having real big problems with this quest right from the beginning; the quest-giver wasn't appearing, so I eventually had to use the dev console to "warp" my party to Soldier's Peak. After getting that far, it was very frustrating to then come across this summoning circle bug! I tried a lot of suggestions and your solution was the only thing that worked. And now SP even appears on the map. Cheers!

wow you're a genius. This fix explains the bug more. I think the summoning circle event only has one script telling Avenus to move to the circle and it doesn't repeat. Because the pathing in this game is pretty bad it just gets messed up 9 times out of 10. Similar to when you tell a melee companion to attack something far away and it just stands there after you order it to move. By moving away from Avenus you remove the cluttered pathing of your party of companions and therefore he can walk freely.

If that doesn't work you can also use a fireball to knock Avernus onto the summoning circle

IT'S 2020 AND YOU ARE THE MAN! Now, I have owned DA:O since release, and every time I played before I just fireballed Dryden/Avernus in to place. But this is the first time I've played where I didn't have a mage with any pushing spells with me during this quest. NOTHING I read was working, until I watched your video. You are THE MAN! WELL DONE AND THANK YOU FOR HAVING UPLOADED THIS AND KEEPING IT UPLOADED!

All i can say is THANK YOU!! I decided to actually get back into the game and finish it after all these years and this one spot had me stuck, I wanted to complete all side quests and addons. I hit the space to pause the moment the cut screen ended and then made my character run in the direction you show and it worked. I had been trying so many other suggestions in forums from so many different years. If i had to guess this is a collision bug with the group of characters in the party and thats why he stops. No clue why it was never fixed, but I am glad I ran across this video here in 2021..

It blows my mind that they patched the Duncan/exp exploit, but couldn't bother to fix this one. Way to screw us on both ends. Anyways, this worked and saved me from having to go a long long way back. Thank you very much!!!

yeah it replays, you go through the cutscene, and when it ends you run away from the old guy, and he'll go where is supposed to go

@@kimmycheyenne No, Aragon is saying you get an infinite loop cutscene that you can't break out of. The uploader didn't get it, for some reason, but I was certainly getting it (with Possessed Dryden though).

Run out of the room up stairs - not in the corner - i believe the distance u make in the next 1 sec after the conversation ends determines if the event triggers or not
