A tutorial illustrating several of the dictation options and commands built-in to Nuance's Dragon Anywhere app. Additionally, I show how to take a basic comma-delisted text file and export that information to a basic spreadsheet-one of many possible ways to share/export text pieces out of this powerful dictation application into other applications on your iOS device.
If you interested in exploring more by trying this app, you can download Dragon Anywhere from the App Store, here: itunes.apple.com/us/app/drago...

That was a great tutorial and I love how it was done in real time so we can see the different techniques instead of just "this is how you do it". Thanks!

Hi Greg. Thanks. Nicely done. I already have some chapters on Words on my iPad 3. I suppose I could open my existing document and start recording?

Greg, Great Tutorial. My IOS iPhone 6 will not recognize & use the Voice Dictation command of "TAKE PHOTO" I have to open & tap on the command. Why not? Pics are a big part of my inspections. Am I doing something wrong? Can u help.

+Wilf Grapentin Thanks for your positive feedback regarding the tutorial, much appreciated! My apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I needed to take some time to research your question a bit before responding. I currently use an iPhone 7 rather than an iPhone 6, and I am currently able to launch the phone's camera from within the Dragon Anywhere app by using the command, "Take Photo" and do not have the issue that you describe. Sorry. Ironically, I learned through experimenting a bit, that Siri will launch your phone's camera with the same command, "Hey, Siri, take photo." Camera then launches. I am curious to see if you try that command using Siri, instead of Dragon Anywhere, to see if you are able to launch the camera more as a test-not as a solution to the issue you raise. I am just trying to pin down why the command doesn't work for you in Dragon Anywhere. Let me know if that works (using Siri) because then you might be able to isolate the issue to Dragon, or something else that is preventing that from working? Also, I am curious how you export/share the document you create in Dragon Anywhere with the created photos embedded in the document? I find that embedded photos in a Dragon Anywhere document are difficult to share with other apps, with the photos preserved, and I am curious to learn if you have a workflow that would permit more easily sharing docs out of Dragon to other apps (Pages, Numbers, Excel, Word, etc.) with photos still embedded in the document? Thanks, again, for watching the tutorials! I am working on some non-Dragon tutorials that I hope to share on KZfaq in the days ahead. Stay tuned!

Hi Greg and thank you for this tutorial! Once you subscribe, can you use this across devices? If so, how many?

Chriselda, thanks for the positive feedback, much appreciated. I am not sure what Dragon’s maximum device limit is, good question and probably documented on their website, I would imagine. My own experience with the app is that I was able to install it on my phone *and* my iPad and they synced so files were shared across both devices. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions and I will do my best to answer them, thanks!

Thank you. I am glad you found the tutorial helpful. It has been a long while since I recorded that video and used Dragon Anywhere, so I am not sure about its ability to read back recorded and recognized text. If there is a way, it is likely found somewhere in the apps settings, perhaps?

Will this continuously record until you tell it to stop? I'm going to be recording seminars live where there will be long pauses with no speech. The problem I had with other apps is that they stop recording after several seconds of no speech.

Thanks for your great question. The short answer is that I do not think that Dragon Anywhere is designed to record, continuously, more ambient speaking, like lectures. It is more personal, and best suited for recording in more of a dictation-like way. My hunch is that it would likely stop recording, randomly, and not give you the desired result. Now, if you have a mobile phone, or tablet, you could record the lecture as an audio file using the built-in microphone for later playback. On an iPhone, for example, you could record the lecture using the built-in “voice memos” app. It will record continuously. Also, it offers the option to pause and record as needed. Dragon’s desktop app “Dragon” could then be used to transcribe the audio file to text, as another option/step. Also, there are a number of excellent “note taking” apps for the iPad, as one device example, that offer handwriting notes and recording at the same time. Meaning you can link a handwritten note in the app to an audio file that captures the lecture that is associated with the note. One example is the app “Notability” (itunes.apple.com/us/app/id360593530?at=11lNsD) and there are others in the App Store that do this type of thing. You might want to research that end of things as well. I hope this additional info is helpful. If you have any additional questions let me know. Thanks for watching and subscribing to my channel. I hope to add a few more videos soon on other apps/topics, stay tuned! :)

Thank you for the great response. I'm trying to have to avoid actually recording audio. What I really need it dictation app/software that will continuously record. I will have my phone hooked up to a high-quality lavalier microphone and need something that will continue to record dictation of up to an hr long. I will be walking around a lot with the phone in my pocket and won't be able to access it until I am finished. There probably isn't such and app is there?

You bet. I *think* I understand the breadth of what you are trying to do. Most likely, you might have the best results recording the audio first using voice memos or whatever recording app you choose on your mobile device. the bottom line is get the best and cleanest recording you can. the lava liner mic will definitely help with that, good idea. Once that is completed you could use Nuance’s desktop app “Dragon” to auto-convert the audio file to a transcription. Nuance has a page dedicated to this, here: www.nuance.com/products/help/dragon/dragon-for-mac/enx/Content/Transcription/Transcription.htm. I also found this page that lists some iOS options, but not sure if any of these really meet your needs: www.ikream.com/2018/07/5-best-free-speech-text-transcription-apps-iphone-25610. Let me know if any of this is helpful and/or in the vein of what you are looking to do. Thanks.

Thanks again Greg! I really want to avoid having to transcribe an audio file if possible. With the Dragon app, if it did stop recording, I could start the recording again with a voice command, correct?
@digitalassemblage
@digitalassemblage 6 жыл бұрын
Totally understand. It is my understanding that Dragon Anywhere can/should be able to be activated with a voice command if it stops recording *or* you elect to stop recording, and then want to activate recording again. The mobile device screen would likely need to be visible so you would know when it is on and working and not working so you don’t miss any spoken moments, etc. I also understand not wanting to transcribe the audio file, but Dragon does make it look like it does most, if not all, of the heavy lifting transcription-wise. Just point it to a file and it will convert the recorded voice to text. It is not an inexpensive app, but if you find you do a lot of this sort of thing, that might be a n option in the future. Just a thought. Thanks for your questions and for sharing your process/workflow with me. Good luck! I hope you are able to find a solid and workable solution. Feel free to contact me if you find what works best for you situation. I am always interested in how folks, like yourself, jump and resolve the inevitable technical hurdles :)

I loved your tutorial. It is exactly what the company needed to put out there so many of us (physicians) have something to use who are Macintosh based. Shame on Dragon in my opinion for completely not supporting Macintosh products any longer. I am using my Dragon account on my MacBook Pro and Mac Pro and they are telling me that they no longer supported. So this is my only option if I am a Mac user currently? I would like to know if you are able to use Dragon on a desktop Mac running the current operating system and be able to use your air pod Pro headphones as your microphone in any Dragon environment. I believe it works on Dragon anywhere for the iPad and iPhone, but I am having a lot of trouble getting my Mac Pro to recognize the air pod pro headphones as the microphone. Any advice?

Thank you for the positive feedback and my apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I am glad you found some of the tips in the video helpful. I wish I could speak from direct experience regarding your questions, but I find I do not use Dragon products at this point. Nothing to do with Dragon or their products, and more to do with my professional needs shifting after I created the videos. That said, I cannot speak to their current product line, nor how well, or not, they are supported on the latest Mac OS, or even iOS. My needs are rather idiosyncratic, but I can share that the app that has worked for me going forward has been the app “Drafts” available on both Mac OS, iOS and iPad OS. It has dictation options-meaning, ways to capture speech to text in Drafts notes, and a plethora of “actions” for getting text out of the app to other apps and services. It is not a dictation-specific app like Dragon’s products, but for my more text-based, text-heavy needs it has been fantastic. Here is the link to the iOS/iPadOS app and its overview: apps.apple.com/us/app/drafts/id1236254471 Hope this might help. If not, good luck finding the tools you need to keep your workflow going smoothly.
