Dragon Eye Puukko - Knife making

For this video I got back to my passion of engraving handles. I started this video one year ago , but a lot of things got on my way. Funny thing is I finish it just days before the launch World of warcraft Dragonflight expansion , so I'll show it to my friends who will play it :) Thanks to all my subscribers and viewers for supporting me even when I was not active for so long :)

I'm not big on decoration ( I blame it on Swedish heritage) so to me, the puukko was perfect after the handle was sanded the first time. Looking at the finished product, well done! Thanks.

Thank you, I was hesitating for a long time before I make the step to carve it , but I mainly make simple practical knives and every now and then I feel the need to do something a bit crazy :)

That's a really cool trick to drill holes and use as much of the steel stock as possible

Dragon scale grips would be cool on both sides, even without the eye. I've wanted to make an ice fishing handle with a dragon theme, this gave me an idea.

For this one the eye was the main thing for me. Maybe you are right about the other side. In future I may do one only with scales on both sides. And I am happy to hear that it gave you an idea. It will be very cool if you make it and show it. Good luck.

yes it was one of my best , most symmetrical handles that I managed to shape (a bit of lick was involved) and I really hesitated to carve it. But at the end I just did it :)

A white color pencil and a whiteout pen is a great way to mark out darker materials. I keep a few of each in my tool box

I tried pencil , but the surface was too smooth and no material from the pen left on it so I had to improvise. Yes white pen is very nice but mine was dried out :)

Que espectacular trabajo maestro!!! Quiero saber si se podría haber hecho la terminación del mango antes de colocar el metal? De esa manera se puede hacer una incrustacion de la madera para el ojo de lado a lado. Para que sea más espectacular aun este cuchillo Saludos desde Paraguay!!!!

Gracias. Se puede hacer, pero hay que partir la madera en dos partes y luego pegarla. Y será más difícil hacerlo de esta manera.

Hmm this is interesting idea. I will not be able to make it only with wood , but some combination of wood and leather to retain the knife might be nice. Thank you for the nice words and for the idea :)

I wonder if a narrow tipped soldering iron would have worked for carving the scales...

No , at least not for this wood and not for this type of texture. Maybe on a brighter wood and if you only want to make shallow drawing like pyrography.
