Ulimate pub band, yes. But when holidaying in a caravan park, literally next door to the pub, my mum and dad left my brother and i with our nana (also holidaying with us) as we were almost teens! We loved that night, albeit while listening from the caravan park.... Now, some 35 yrs later my dad speaks to me from beyond, everytime i hear his favourite song, his funeral song..... Rain.😢Thank you Marc Hunter, Thank you Dragon...... Thank you dadman!❤

Just kickin back the sarvo with some Dragon and thinkin back to the mighty 80s crusin round on my P's ..Bak in the day listening to the plethora of Aussie pub bands on the radio, seeing those same bands live for $10 for 3 top notch bands all round the Sydney and around the shire... not $300 for 1 shitty screaming bunch of flogs on stage... Where did hell did all the top Aussie musicians go.. Where did all the venues go?? Where the bloody hell did time go... Thanks Guys for the memories.

It was good times mate, I last saw Dragon downstairs at Bell Street Rock about 1987 I think. There was so many great bands around back then that you tended to take them for granted a bit so you maybe saw a band once a year. They were a great band live, I reckon there was only 50 people at the gig only which is insane when you think about it because they sold out big venues. Got up pretty close dancing with some of the local feral Preston chicks.Good night out from memory.

Great band, we all know the songs but they were a real Pub band, they loved the small crowds as well as the big ones. Marc passed away in one of the most beautiful parts of Australia. That area was so peaceful, calm & he would of loved sitting out on the back 'porch' of that hospital remembering his life, his family. The room were he passed was a private place. I'm sure his family were very grateful for that time with him. He left us a wonderful gift, his music....it didn't die with him & I thank him for that. ❤️🎵❤️

What a great band Dragan were and what a sad end to Marc’s life. Looking back at this I’m reminded what a great music scene we had in this country. Sorry kids, there’s nothing like that now.

He epitomised a period of great songwriting, polished live performance and he had all the hooks and swagger of one of the great front men of Aussie based bands in the 70s and 80s. My generation truly were spoiled for choice. I believe the Aussie music scene has been sick since the decline in the live music scene. We have lost the venues where music apprenticeships are earned, honed in live performance with eager crowds soaked up the emotion and feel of great live performance. Pokies, policing of drink driving and the inflation in prices and costs to run venues all stuffed the live performance industry. In a time with no web, bands looked into their own lives for creativity and their art in performance was unique to them aside from the inspirations of other artists. Radio and tv shapes the industry and shows like sounds unlimited and count down were so important to a healthy Aussie music scene.

People gloss over his heroin problem because of their warm ,& find memories of Dragon in their youth. Marc's heroin problem cost Dragon a lucrative US contract in 1978. Three years later, he was on the dole in Sydney. He was a huge talent. I don't mean to dis the guy. Unfortunately, you're only on top for four years or so. Dragon packed a lot into their career and left a lifelong legacy in Australia and their home, New Zealand.

I worked for the Classical/Educational Division of Alberts from 1976 -1979. My office was on the 5th floor and adjoined the recording studio where Dragon recorded 'April Sun in Cuba.' I was in my late teens. There was a Steinway grand in my office, brought from Boomerang, the Albert Family mansion. Whenever I had a moment free, I would play, even compose at it. One day, I was working on a piece and looked up to see a tall young man standing at my office door listening. He had coloured streaks in his hair and wore a long flowing scarf. I signalled for him to come in. He entered, and sat down on one of the blue leather chairs by the piano. I did not know who he was. He said the music I was working on reminded him of Ravel. We spoke about French classical music. He told me he was recording with his group in the studio, and promised to visit with me again. It was Marc Hunter. At the time, and mostly because my musical interests and work at Alberts centred around classical/educational publications, I had no idea who he was. Neither did he elaborate much on himself. We just spoke as if we were friends and true to his word, whenever he was at Alberts to record, he would always visit with me, and talk about music. I would play for him. If ever we passed in the corridor outside my office, he would bow to me with a flourish and swirl of his scarf. Marc was a gentleman through and through. At one time, I gave to him a small gold crucifix simply to thank him for the times he spent with me. He was a kind and caring soul. And so elegant in how he carried himself. A true stylist. After leaving Alberts in 1979, I never really saw him again. But my memory of him was such that when decades later he died, I cried. I will still shed a tear for him from time to time. He was a good good man! Someone I will never forget.

Pretty sad hearing this at the time, some people shine so bright but because they burn so bright they only last for a short time. I think he did a lot of living in his 44 years. Not the first and nor will he be the last sadly.
