This was definitely one of my favorite games when I was a kid. And I came to this video because I was very pleasantly surprised that they are releasing a new Dragon Quest Monsters on the Nintendo Switch!

The best thing about this game is that unlike every other turn based game of the generation, this one is playable on 1.5x speed rather than 2x

As much as I loved Pokémon as a kid, these games were my favorite for the breeding system alone. Watching this and playing the Tara's Adventure :)

The hook was simple. The ending was cool. And I agree I was hooked cUse of the breeding system. Don’t remember what I was doing now as it’s been over 20 years but just remember making powerful guys

Postgame is sick, one gate per family, bosses from all the old dq games, and some final monsters your can only get by beating all the gates

while everyone played Pokémon blue red or yellow I was playing dragonwarrior monsters. I remember I was playing this at my freshman rally.

I've been playing this game for years, ever since it came out. Nowadays, if I play it, I try to see how much BS I can finish as early as possible. This time, I got to fight the Panther with Durran in my party

I have thought about, in passing, about mapping out this game. Now I understand some parts are randomized (the Gate Towers for example). But my question is, what parts of this game is not randomized when it comes to dungeon/area layout? Because those are the areas I'd like to focus on (I don't map dungeons that are randomized).

There is only a few that aren't randomized, I can only think of three maps off the top of my head not counting boss rooms or like, merchant rooms and stuff like that. There's a forest maze that is always the same way to get out of it, a room that has a floor that automatically moves you that is always the same way and one other one that I cant think of for some reason.

@@sawderf741 Yeah that's pretty easy to do. King slimes aren't 'that' great on their own, next to some other monsters.

IIRC didn't it also get a full 3D remake on the switch? I swear I remember seeing Terry's wonderland 3D again Japan only

Ive been playing dqm joker for years and decades. Wow this is closer to pokemon yellow. Interesting. Joker went 3d and way better graphics where as pokemon stayed looking like an old gameboy game. Joker is one of the best games ever. Countless thousands of hours just trying to breed and see what i can breed. Hundreds of monsters. Countless combinations in battle. So many ways and so many things to think about. Even breed the moves. Its insane. Its just as bad as worying about pokemon ev's hahaha

This guy doesn’t know much about this game. At 26:00 he’s complaining there’s no good way to level up monsters for breeding like you don’t have early-game access to metaly and late-game access to metabble.

It's awkward in a speedrun because you first have to recruit a Boneslave to open the well, then always get to the latter levels of the well to find Metalys, who often run away. That's never going to speed a run up which can succeed with relatively low level Whipbirds. Metabbles are part of post-game so not relevant at all here.
