the original is one of my favorites, but sadly zodiac age completely ruined it for me. i liked it because it was one of the more challenging ff games, but zodiac age nerfed the difficulty so hard that you can just easily auto-battle your way through everything. in the original you could auto-battle against weaker enemies, but tougher enemies required you to manually input commands. if they want to add an easy mode to make it more "accessible" then whatever, but at least leave in the option to play the game with the original challenge. apparently many players somehow aren't bothered by this, but i have zero interest in a game that plays itself and requires no thought. i'd love to play an unaltered port, but this supposed remaster is unplayable garbage to me.

I like the combat but the story was absolutely terrible. Most of the characters were not great.

@@Jack_80 for sure, Zodiac Age has many great features and would be the definite way to experience FFXII, but the nerfed difficulty is a major letdown. I killed Zodiark in seconds. Even Yiazmat is not that great of a challenge anymore. I really wish they'd release a hard mode for it (not the lame low level challenge, an actual hard mode).

FF12 is overrated actually considering the awful story, characters development and pacing. Can you recall any memorable moments between the escape from the imperial fleet and the final battle? I don't.

@@withnoname31 Mortismal Gaming listed it in his Top 7 all time in a video this week. I highly recommend you check it out. It will give you more insight as to why FF12 is beloved by so many.

Gambit system isn't mandatory so that's a moot point. You can set up your characters auto-actions as little or as much as you please. Besides, FF12 is the last good FF game :)

I just beat DQ7 recently, amazing game. Took me 70h to beat, very long game! I played almost everyday for 1h after work and finally finished it!

@@wardragonx My least favourite is probably FF5. Very grindy, no story beyond a series of scenarios that connect, but very little character development, just a lot of "This happened, and then this happened, and then this happened." WAAAAAAAY too much in the way of wing clipping: or giving you cool stuff (airships and such) and then taking it away from you like 3-20 minutes later. FF5 wasn't all bad. The best writing in the game was Gilgamesh, but that's because it was done by the head writer of Final Fantasy 6 and 7, Yoshinori Kitase. The other thing I did like about FF5 was the environmental art (not the character art); head artists in that department included Tetsuya Takahashi and Kaori Tanaka of Xenogears fame. Unfortunately, those elements were in FF5 instead of FF4, which didn't (IMO) have the best artwork, although FF4 did amazing with what resources it had, and (as I previously indicated) IMO was a significantly better game. But then again, even the one commonly considered the worst, FF2, IMO had a lot of positives. I actually liked FF2 better than FF1 or 3 because of its stronger characters, story, and political struggles, even if it was still a lot of "this happened, and then this happened" stuff; relative to FF1 and 3, it was substantially better in the story/character department. Way too much writing for a KZfaq post :D

I really hate to say this but Dragon Quest 8 is almost always in the top 10 actually it's even considered one of the top three PS2 jrpgs many times. Dragon Quest 8 also didn't have many of the development problems that Final Fantasy 12 had and you can tell that it had them. Ff 12 story isn't great but gameplay is good. Maybe you're just not a big fan of Dragon Quest games. I love both series to death but I just think 8 is the overall better made game. It's also one of the highest rated ones on the system

@@bioboost12 DQ8 is the overall simpler game. FF12 innovated and people did not respond well to it. It also was missing its strong romantic element the previous 4 games had. To each his own though.

Each to their own, I thought FF12 absolute trash and one of the worst games I've ever played, trash combat with awful characters and story. I'd rate it within my top 10 worst JRPG of all time.

Put grandia 2 in the last place and youre right. Part 1 definitely had the better story atmosphere compared to part 2...and even music.
