Here is my review of dragons dogma 2 after 100 hours of pure spell casting. This was some of the most immersive gameplay I have had in a long time and I highly recommend this game if you like exploration and intense action.

Methinks the sorcerer in the first game is the true maister. Good review, you nailed it. There is so much replay value, because there is so much variety in gameplay and so much freedom. Weapons make a great deal of the stats so if people get to strong just downgrade your weapons.

@@Polemos_Action the combat is a bit cleaner and the game mechanics more complex and deeper, but the world is a bit empty. Second game is so full of content, the combat more grounded but they both so much fun. If you play the first game don't miss out on that Mystic Knight, it's the best class I've ever played, compared to him that spearhand guy is just a gimmick.

I do enjoy the other vocations but I just keep going back to Sorcerer. Calling Meteors/Tornadoes to kill things for you is very satisfying since there's no long ass cooldowns/stupid high mana cost for ultimate spells. High Seisem is also fucking hilarious watching goblins get bounced in the air 2-3 times before finally dying to fall damage. Not to mention Thundermire is, IMO, one of the easiest and best ways to deal with harpies. It doesn't do all that much damage but has crazy knockdown/stagger power. Put down that lightning ball and aggro them, once they get close they get knocked out of the air and your melee pawns destroy them.

For opening songs you should check out the menu song that Dragon's Dogma 1 had before the dlc dropped. It's called Into Free and I found out it's a mod on Nexus to have it on Dragon's Dogma 2 if you want to. The song is amazing, after the dlc dropped though for some reason the menu song got switched to something very mellow. Mage and sorcerer feel stronger in Dragon's Dogma 2, but they have better utility in the first game. Warrior has had the biggest glow up from the first game to the second. I do miss some of the spells, but from what I can tell Capcom did it to make each class feel more unique. Because and especially with elements and debuffs, every vocation has options to use any and all of them in Dark Arisen

I disagree. The original Dragon's Dogma handled magic better than its sequel in my opinion. Mage got substantially stronger, but spell variety is very lackluster and lost some great supporting spells like Grapnel. And Sorcerer lost access to Glicel, Miasma, Fulmination and many other great spells the first game had.

They are saying it is easy in comparison to Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen's Bitter Black Isle. And players coming from Fromsoft games or Dragon's Dogma will breeze through most enemies here. It's a casual action game with light RPG features.

I do hear that DDA is harder and I really need to check it out my self. However even with Fromsoft games after 100-200hours the base game is not that hard anymore. PVP is really the only difficult aspect. I also just personally hate games where enemies scale with your level it makes leveling seem meaningless to me and breaks immersion. But I will have to try DDA sounds like a really well put together end game.

Dragons Dogma 2 is pretty solid, I personally still Prefer Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen (the first game) but I do think Dragons Dogma 2 is a solid game, the movement feels sluggish in DD2 and thats why i prefer it less then the first one, whereas in DD:DA it felt a lot snappier which I think was to its benefit as an action RPG.

@benjaminfuqua3049

All of it, pretty much. Your character has momentum in this game, which wasn't a thing in the first game. You could stop on a dime, and if you pushed a direction, your character went that direction, immediately. There was less slipping/climbing on hills and sloped roads, so you rarely had those moments where you couldn't control your movement, and they seem to be way more frequent here. Any class that could equip daggers (Strider, Assassin, Ranger, Magick Archer) use to also have access to a dodge roll as a core skill, which was both a really useful in combat, and faster than walking, so you had a stamina-free option from traversing the world quicker. Dagger classes also had Instant Reset, an activated skill that set you to your normal upright state instantly. So if you could cancel out of Sun Flare and use it again for extra height, for example, or cancel out of the animations for lighting your lantern. The most important thing it did was break all forms of stun or stagger. If you got surrounded and stunlocked by the overwhelming numbers of bandits on the Verdas plains, you could smack IR and jump out of the mob to stay alive. If a dragon hit you with Levin, you could pop IR and skip the whole falling over animation. Thief has a much crappier version as a core skill, that only lets you react to knockdown, not staggers or electrocution. Given how much more this gameplay focuses on knockdown/staggers, the lack of ways to deal with them in the early half of this game is pretty frustrating.
@MrMonklad
@MrMonklad Ай бұрын
@@benjaminfuqua3049 thats pretty well said. Honestly the momentum in DD2 is pretty darn annoying, fast paced action RPGs really don't benefit well from Momentum, if anything its a detriment. I don't hate DD2 for the new systems its using but I DO certainly prefer the the snappiness of DD:DA

I disagree. DD1 had a lot more spells, and just a better/more fun variety of spells. It also feels like the low level spells take a *lot* longer to cast now. Levin used to take about two seconds to charge, now it's 5. Frigor lost the insanely good knockdown it had when it thrust up from underneath them. Maelstrom is slightly faster, but we also lost the upgraded version, and it has way less pull and damage than it used to. Bolide (Meteoron) is the only spell that actually seems improved, because more than two meteors can hit the same target, but overall, this is a massive, massive nerf. Being able to enchant weapons with Holy/Dark should not have been removed, given that they've removed so many of our fast cast options (Ingle, Miasma, Comestion) we really could use Holy Focused Bolt, but even focused bolt is weak and pointless now. On top of all that, this game is just not well balanced for casters. Enemies target the player more than pawns, so you'll be getting constantly pounced on and stunlocked as a Mage/Sorc, and the game can and will spawn in enemies next to/behind you while your pawns are busy elsewhere. Really disappointed in this game overall.
@benjaminfuqua3049
@benjaminfuqua3049 Ай бұрын
I should also add that targeting got massively downgraded. Spells only have one casting mode now, and that's auto target. We used to be able to place our spells strategically, to either get more targets or block narrow passages. I've also noticed high level spells keep you fixed in place while casting, so you have to try to find that edge of close enough to affect the enemy/not close enough to get attacked and knocked out of casting. While this was somewhat of a thing in the first, once a spell was fully charged and ready to be released, most of them allowed you move (very slowly), so you could better position yourself, and get your big spells off more reliably.
@Polemos_Action
@Polemos_Action Ай бұрын
That sounds like a major change from DD1 but compared to any other game out there the magic is still really impressive in DD2. How can you be so disappointed. Mages suck in almost every game and the magic never feels impactful.

@@benjaminfuqua3049 I do agree with all of your second comment though they could improve it substantially. I hate sitting so long and targeting can be really frustrating at points.
@minhngnp

They have quick cast so it's fair to have a bit longer base casting time in the beginning. If you have warrior or fighter on the team yea monsters can hit you once or twice but eventually they will turn to your pawn and give you the opening you need. Even without more variety of spells, sorcerer is way too OP right now, for the balancing you have to be smart about position and I think it's good. Don't instantly try to call meatballs when that gobblin about to jump on your face. I hope a DLC maybe with more difficulty and more monster they will add more skills. One thing I don't get it is why Mage and Sorcerer have some skills overlapped? Mage do need some offensive skills but it can literally be any else. I know in DD1 lots of vocations reuse skills from other but it's a new game now and all other vocations are unique except these two. Yea and no more auto targeting I hate it. Most spells are aoe why does it need to be locked on a target...
@JLG35X
@JLG35X Ай бұрын
while I agree with several of your points to me it feels a lot easier to cast in this game than the last one as far as agro goes, the big difference is that you can no longer move the spells to cast at a distance but I don't feel like fighter/warrior struggle to pull agro for me. Personally I like the mechanic of Meteor of the last game since it made it feel a bit more balanced for me but that is just personal opinion. Haven't timed spell casting time but big spells with my rings feel faster than last game and smaller spells have quick cast. Honestly don't miss Holy Focused Bolt, felt like you where casting lasers and too powerful, in general never cared for how the basic attack works on either game.

Eh, no. Hard disagree. Dragon’s dogma 1 allow you to better manually control your spell casting. DD1 spells have more variety too. Lightning spells had so much flavor in the original game.
