I was in Samoa for holidays visiting family last September and there were 3 local shops in the village, 2 of them being small corner shop type stores and the other being a large Supermarket type which had just opened a year before. Was told by my cousin, land the supermarket is on, is still owned by a local Samoan family however the business and all goods in it are owned by a Chinese family who had only been in Samoa for 2 years at that time. As the new wave of Chinese have access to cheaper goods coming from mainland China and massive buying power locally, the variety of their products and especially how less expensive their pricing is compared to the local Samoan shops bascially meant, everyone in the village was going to the Chinese run business. To put it in perspective, their pricing matches and is even lower than what is in Apia which a 45 minute drive from where I was and 3 other local run and owned stores have all closed in the last 16 months as they can't compete with the Chinese run supermarket. Like you said regarding the PM and gov't, they let this happen and unless something happens at the legislative level, Samoa will continue to get exploited.

Would you prefer the locals pay higher prices just so some other families can have a good business? Life is hard. Too many Samoan businesses have had a comfortable and charmed life with their high prices and are only now moaning because they have forced to lower their prices or they are being out-competed by people who simply work harder.

For one, there is no Pacific Island culture. Shared ancestry aside, there are Pacific Islands and each group of people from those islands have their own unique culture, something I know you're aware of. There is also no qualitative amount from which cultural richness can be measured because the considerations are arbitrary. It's comparing apples to oranges and seems like something said purely to piss people off? Your anger is clear, and we all know misery loves company, but if you want people on your side you probably shouldn't finish by insulting not only their culture but the culture of every other Pacific Islander. I have over 200 members in my family and only three family members has married to other nationalities and have kids with them but the rest are all full blooded Samoan. And this is only on my dads side. My mother’s side is similar too.
