This famous carol is originally an Ukrainian folksong. It was sung on the first day of the year, which used to be the first of May. The melody in Part A (0:00 - 1:37) and Part C (2:23 - 3:49) is traditional Ukrainian. It is very old and probably pre-Christian. This old song is called "Shchedryk". Ariana Le Fay (singer and composer of DRAGONTOR) rearranged it for female choir (SSAA). The harmonisation is the same as in the version of Leontovych.
