Original Video • Draining a Massive Flo...
Update Video • Draining a Massive Flo...
I know you may be thinking those arrows are for finding the drains under a snowbank but the plows go right up against the curb as any good plow driver should. These arrows appeared at these drains after I reported this area to have constant flooding. The rest of the drains on the street are not marked so I assume it's flood-related if it was snow bank related I think they would have marked all of them, either way for snow or not they should have used a metal or concrete post in the ground because weather the arrows are covered with a flood or a layer of ice you won't be able to see them
I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

@@reapexerI feel like that makes it worse actually. How do you not be paying attention? Most of the other drivers managed to either slow down, drive far enough away he didn't get hit, or both. Having said that driving through that much water seems nuts to me. I suppose when it floods here it's usually flash flooding and there's a decent chance the water is actually fast moving though

This guy is awesome! As a mechanic I can say he has saved engines from hydro locking. For those who don't know what that is, it is when an engine ingests too much water causing the engine to seize an 9 out of 10 times causes catastrophic engine failure. Especially if you have a low car, don't go into high water or you may pay a hefty price

@Saabspeedmaniac2k6.... Yep! Well said! The European cars are always the worst I've heard to suffer from hydrolocking because the bill is in the 1000's as opposed to Japanese cheaper fixes.I heard of a guy whose Volkwagen hydrolocked in one of these and he was looking at a $4000-$6000 bill.

Chaudhry Azeem The last thing you wanna do is race into a deep puddle. 😂 You can’t always tell how deep it is and there could be debris or potholes caused by the flood. Plus the faster you go into the puddle the more water your going to have splashing your engine and with modern cars becoming more technical you’re risking some damage to your engine or electrical parts.

My old neighbor had the sewer drain on his corner and before a big heavy rain, you could see him out there with his tall white bucket and his rake and he cleaned it out and we never had issues. It also helps that people rake out their yards in a timely matter and not leave old leaves out all winter long once that blows around for some reason those leaves love to end up around that drain.
@Kristin2885
@Kristin2885 20 күн бұрын
@@skylilly1 Yes, unfortunately around here, everyone has a leaf blower and they literally just blow the leaves off their front yard and into the street. Unfortunately two roads slope downward and my house is at the base of it so everyone's leaves and twigs just filter down to my house. I miss the days when people actually raked and filled leaf bags for garbage pick-up rather than making it someone else's problem..

@Thomas L Yeah same thought. My dad used to drive a Subaru through water higher than that near our house. It was low to the ground but had 4WD so it handled it better than a 2WD but he said you had to should never stop and try never to slow down but keep the same pace. Just in the passenger seat, I could feel the pressure from when the water reached the bumper and then when it let go. It also splashed a lot. I also walked the sidewalk on that road in a few floods and was splashed. It sucked but I understood it. Most people aren't doing it on purpose in those conditions. People splashing on purpose are usually when it finishes raining and there's a puddle somewhere. You can hear them rev up and if facing them see them veer over to hit it on purpose. Driving on the sidewalks, however, is the worst. Those people should get reported and fined. If flooding is that bad you don't know if someone had to leave their house and is on the sidewalk. It could be the elderly, children, someone with pets, etc.

@@jarvindriftwood I'm not entirely sure he's correct with his 'never slow down' advice, because most driving instructions I've seen concerning waterlogged roads is 1. avoid if possible 2. slow down if you have to go through. Going faster just makes it easier to lose control of the car because of aquaplaning.
@tboythomas
@tboythomas 2 жыл бұрын
If you slow down, the water can clog your engine and cause your engine to lock up (flooding the engine). The never slow down advice is actually good advice. You should keep a speed you can control, preferably a decently faster not slower speed but not too fast. Don’t speed up but definitely don’t slow down.

They think that cars get stuck in water because the vehicle loses traction by floating up - not because the engine is flooded long before the vehicle turns into a boat. "Maybe if if I go fast I will float to the other side with the momentum!" ⛵ The majority of people driving cars don't understand that internal combustion engines need *air* just as much as *fuel* to simply run. Same sort of folks who can't set up a campfire because they completely forget about air intake. A car is a living machine: it needs to breath. Given how difficult it is to get people to at least use turn signals, I wouldn't hold my breath regarding a basic understand of what makes their cars go _vroom._

If this guy truly does this because he enjoys the whirlpool payoffs, I wouldn't be surprised if this could be attributed to Asperger's Syndrome. One of the main characteristics of A.S. is having special interests with a passion. I myself am diagnosed with a mild case of A.S. and certainly know a bit about going down rabbit holes to learn almost everything about something specific, which to most people would feel like a waste of time. My current "rabbit hole" is trying to get to know all there is to know about electric cars - their history, construction, battery tech, etc. And while most people desire social connections, I feel most at ease when I'm alone and try to obtain information on my interests... which is hard for most people to understand.

Don’t award mediocrity, we don’t need to pat people on the back who follow simple rules of the road and Highway Code they should have learned already like slow down when entering a flooded area to protect your car, your brakes and yourself, this is expected of every competent and licensed driver. Anyone who just ploughs into the water is either blind or an idiot which is more dangerous. Blind people wouldn’t see the massive build up of water like the guy who hard splashed him, they slammed the brakes once they hit the water so they didn’t see it coming, in which case their judgement is compromised or their vision is shit, either way get them off the road The idiot drives on the pavement to avoid the water on a cluttered pavement with trees on a corner which could have pedestrians you don’t see or just drives through the water like it isn’t there, which can wreck the car and you just know they didn’t check their brakes after leaving the water to make sure they’re working properly so they’re both a dick who should be off the road but also driving a potentially unsafe vehicle, Bad drivers make normal drivers look good, don’t congratulate people for common sense, embarrass the bad ones so they go extinct, or put some cement mix on the pavement to fuse their brakes up good
