When she asks about which of their characters should be in therapy, and it came around to Norman, I suddenly imagined what it would be like if his character sat down with Gabriel Byrne's character in 'In Treatment...' as a parody. That would be pretty funny.

It's kind of strange to watch Jon Hamm on interviews like this one. He's a funny and candid guy when interviewed in a different environment.

Good interview. On second viewing just skipped to Hamm's answers but it's still good. Hamm is the most talented actor here and deserves huge success

I think Yvonne the interviewer does a sensitive job. She has interesting questions and listens and is intelligent so adapts her questions in response.
@maja1157
@maja1157 9 жыл бұрын
That's a weird thing to say. If it were that way no one would notice the interviewer. But I notice her off-pace all the time. Don't get me wrong... I'm already jealous of the composure she exercises and her daring to really react to responses... I wish I could do that in any situation. But there's still cutting-off-answers going on, for example. When Margulies talks about modern life's digital connectivity (~kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a610qdR8zNq2d4k.htmlm30s) ... it seems Villarreal either does not know how to reply or had sort of pre-scheduled a new question to be there now... either way... it's feels very much like a cutting off. And I don't care if it was on purpose or not. It shouldn't have happened. It messes with the flow, inhibits possible awesome replies. A good round-table interview is (if it has to be one:) a power play that isn't experienced as such. But here... I'm aware all the time of the central player. Puts me off. Don't want to know that she's there. Just want to love her questions. Did not get the chance to have that. So I disagree, especially with the "sensitive"/"adapting" compliment.
@Shepsus
@Shepsus 9 жыл бұрын
MsESilverFox I have to respectfully agree with Marianne Jaffke . I think the interviewer should be invisible, and only push discussion when needed. I have loved other round tables they've done, but I was almost done after the first damn question when she answered her own question with "overwhelmed" and expressed her issue with massive amounts of television, when the rest were discussing the topic of the evolution of TV. All positive answers about one subject, and she gives a negative answer about a different subject... She's there to lead the discussion, not participate.

Shepsus I have to agree with this, the interview was just straight up uncomfortable and "not good" from the get-go. I'm not even 10 minutes in, skipping through and its quite unbearable. This interviewer is trying to be a stand-up comedian kind-of playing with the audience, rather than an actual goddam interviewer. I'd rather they'd place the questions on a piece of paper and let the actors discuss them together without the interviewer. I'm going at length about this because these are some goddam fine fucking actors and I love their work and the parts they play. The interviewer seemed to just waste their air...
@diedofdrinking

Shepsus exactly we want to here the opinions of actors not the moron interviewing them. You are right after the first question, Its frustrating that i just don't want to watch this because of the weird feeling of disorganized interview. however, i still want to know what these guys have to say.

The Hollywood Reporter roundtable that actually had Vera and Julianne again at the same table along with 3-4 other actresses was far better. I think there was also Claire Danes, Jessica Pare, Sarah Paulson, and Keri Russell - makes for a pretty darn talented and not too shabby looking table I must say.

I know its not necessary but a little spoiler alert would have been nice. Fortunately I was caught up on most of these shows but not all. Something like spoilers of Ray Donavan S1, Bates Motel up through S2, etc. Wouldn't be as upset if I didn't have The Hollywood Reporter roundtables to compare this to. I mean her questions are as if she's asking the character and not the actor. Would have been nice to just have the actors converse without those questions. Luckily the talent did a great job making this worth it

Suzanne Niemeijer Yeah, it annoys me... It seems like the others think they are better than him and TWD...
@Suztvfan
@Suztvfan 9 жыл бұрын
Yup, while TWD is laughing because they have the most viewers. ;) I don't watch the other shows because it's all so normal. The only thing I am interested in at this table is Mad Men and Bates hotel. But TWD is just so totally different which makes it a million times better because they are on top with something which was always seen as bad horror movie monster, and they can make it on top in the drama category while also have the most exciting action and horror. It's the best of both worlds and everyone is watching for something different. I like the gore but love the interaction of humans who change in such a situation.
@BadassRandomness

@yjadalyn1
@yjadalyn1 9 жыл бұрын
Yeah I read that too. That's what makes me think of him that way. I mean, it's an easy assumption to make- really too easy given his childhood. I wonder if he had reservations about the role... it really was a dangerous risk for him to take by playing this part. He does it well, but at what cost? Jay Brown

Yeah and the fame/money must provide temptations that a normal job wouldn't. I wonder if Mad Men ending will be a good or bad thing for him emotionally, if the career opportunities don't come. It's a shame he wasn't allowed to do Gone Girl.

Some the camera shots of Schrieber and Margulies were horrific- they were framed in-between the heads of the other people. The back of Hamm's head loomed hugely in the foreground and there would be a sliver of Schrieber's face. Pathetic.
