@@afkass4965 this is what im saying, everyone is dawing their gun agains alireza but they miss the real issue here the real issue is FIDE with its clownish rules. what if every other top 20 player did the exact same thing ? then what ? also we now know alireza didn't "fix" his last tournoment as he drew the last game and lost rating points. we can now see the true colors of all the clown content creators who were pushing that agenda and making drama just get some clicks. we truly live in a horrible world.

Should be totally fine, the Rouen tournament has been held for over a decade, so it will have been registered in time. I don´t see anything wrong with Alireza making a last ditch effort, quite the contrary. If anything, FIDE set the riles unwisely inviting what is happening now. But what is happening is totally fine and clearly within the rules set by Fide. The highest rated player not qualified otherwise, will get get the final candidates spot. Not a word of French in that rule.

For those who criticise Alireza Firouzja, playing against weaker players is no guarantee of winning elo points. On the contrary, a draw is forbidden and it's extremely risky for a super GM to be forced to win 100% of the next games against GM or IM players who would play for draw (for example repeatedly trying to exchange pieces or to gain positional advantage in case of exchange refusal). To achieve 100% wining, Alireza Firouzja has the attacking game that is lacking to Wesley So. Gata Kamsky's only "gift" to Alireza Firouzja, will be to try to win his game.

Wouldn’t it be funny if Magnus registered a tournament where he played classical chess against a bunch of 4 year olds. He would need less than 100 wins to be a 2900. He wouldn’t break any rules doing that. The problem is the 400 rating difference rule. You can beat up beginners and get 0.8 rating for it. I am NOT saying, that this is what Alireza is doing. I have no problems with what Alireza does. I actually like what he does. My comment is just an example of how you could abuse the rules to the maximum.

Because fide might not deem the games he played at Chartres legit. No one knows if they will, so he keeps playing

Unless fide does the smart thing and doesn’t rate Alireza’s invite-only old guys tournament if it changes the ranking.

Bad take. I would love it if more top players play open tournaments that you and I can join. I’m sure most ordinary people would love to face a player like Magnus just for the experience.
