Players like Rune, Djokovic, Medvedev usually try distraction tactics when losing - fighting with umpire, linesmen or the crowd. And many times this unsettless the oppoonents who then start losing the momentum while these guys creep back. Sinner made lot of loose shots and errors after Rune's antics in the second set. Good he recovered to win the match.

Sono felice che abbia perso quel secondo set. Per 3 motivi in particolare: 1. La palla era fuori in effetti. 2. Rune avrebbe pianto per i prossimi 10 anni. 3. jannik and holger are my two favorite players, so despite having to pick one of them to root for, it's always incredible to see two of the most gifted shotmakers play. rune is a demon in tiebreaks. his backhand is monstrous and he can generate insane pace out of nowhere with it to clutch up, sometimes on the forehand too despite it being the weak wing for him technically. tremendous match from holger, huge improvement physically. didnt even look tired despite the amount of hours he spent on court and even with jannik giving up way too many opportunities, he regathered himself against a hungry in-form rune to protect his ranking. as long as this was a one-off thing for him, it looks like a djokovic v sinner rematch is incoming...

I would argue crowd support can be a double edged sword for the player being supported. It adds pressure to them. Do you know how hard it is to win a match when 20000 people are watching and expecting you to win, hoping for you to win? It’s difficult. It’s much easier to motivate yourself to prove them wrong.

What's common between Darth Vader, Novak Djokovic, and Holger Rune: All of them channel their dark side to impose their will. Whenever they face opposition or disapproval from the mindless masses, peripheral characters, and their opponents, they give a big F*K U to them and continue their charade. What truly made Djokovic great was that he was willing to take on the world all by himself. Totally fearless and blessed with an indomitable will and a gargantuan pride in oneself (haters may call it ego or arrogance), he will go to any extent to impose his will and dominate. A true sigma. Rune is cut out of the same cloth...he too knows no fear and takes no disrespect.

Considering clay is the favourite surface for the spoiled kid and the least favourite for Jannik it mean the gap level between them is so high atm. I would like to support Rune ( when isn't against italians of course!) but then he act like today and i lose interest again in him.

no idea how Rune kept Sinner to a 3 set match, after playing all these hours in the past days. I mean he was almost finished during the match against Dimitrov, having less than 100 minutes to rest after his OTHER singles match. Nice scheduling, Monte Carlo!

@@user-fs6cr5em2lIt’s tough because clay and grass courts need to be outdoors, which means rain will push a match back. It’s inevitable. But the scheduling was horrendous. Why not prioritize yesterday’s matches before starting new ones? Instead they had Rune and Nagal play later in the day, followed by Rune/Dimitrov at night only 90 minutes after, and then scheduled Rune/Sinner to be the second match instead of having them be last? I’m glad Rune ended up giving a good fight, especially for a guy whose physicality has been questionable.

You have no idea how Rune kept Sinner to a 3 set match? Really? 2:17 is the reason why the game went to 3 sets. Rune created chaos all by himself just to breath and distract Sinner momentum. A trashy person he is, per usual. And he lost against a real player, per usual.

I'm glad that someone like Rune is around to outrage all the proper people. In the 70s and early 80s, he would have been considered one of the nice guys, since he doesn't actually aim for his opponent's head on smashes and just has the odd tantrum. Now if a guy hits a net chord and doesn't bow down in apology to his opponent, or gives a solid but cool handshake versus a slobbering hugfest, y'all clutch your pearls and head to the nearest fainting couch. Love Sinner, the iceman. Also love Rune, the enfant terrible. They both want to win more than they want to breathe, and that's great entertainment.
