What an amazing time I had at the ‪@ESSENCEMAG‬ Wellness House event in Atlanta! We talked about the role of HEALTHY faith on the trauma healing journey. This event was a beautiful gathering of Black women so I had the chance to talk about some cultural specifics. If your race or ethnicity is different listen carefully and then consider what lessons your culture may have taught you. Culture shapes our faith in significant ways. Recognizing that is one of the keys to healthy faith. ENJOY!!

I'm following her everywhere she goes. I found all of her sermons because her message just opened up something inside of me. I have been hurt since I was 14 years old. I'm 36, and listening to her sermon has opened up something inside me. I never got help. I have been battling it all of these years.

This sermon was phenomenal! I CANNOT believe what I heard today and won't ever forget it. I am survivor of suicide loss. My only child, left the state to marry in the military, my mother died a month later and my brother died from suicide four months later. My heart was split wide open when my brother left this earth. I have been in many areas for counseling and still grieve. I believe what has been spoken here will help me on my way to true healing - don't ever count us white girls out of the mix when it comes to what you preached today! THANK YOU for being obedient to the Holy Spirit ins SO many ways!

Your never counted out, sister. Please try to understand... Dr. Phillips' focus, for this particular talk was somewhat directed at the African American culture, and her experience as an African American woman. Our people have been lacking in healing for so long, but we are started to see a season of change that addresses our needs, specifically. It's complicated. We are complicated. Prayers for your healing journey.

I am so grateful to have been introduced to your work through the sermon you preached at The Potter's House. I watched it on KZfaq. 2020 is certainly shaping up to be a year of revolution in all areas. I read the Van Der kolk book on trauma and your sermon help to develop the seed that was planted after reading that book. I'm on a journey of growth and understanding about how trauma has affected my life and how disruptions of connectedness in my mind body and spirit has been keeping me from being a whole woman and keeping me from showing up as the person God created me to be. Thank you so much for sharing this work that you have poured yourself into.

Your message was right on time. I woke up this morning feeling anxious from over thunk thoughts on how I need to banish the bad habit of not applying myself and embracing the skills, gifts that I have been blessed with. The frustrations of being a single mom, my daughter feeling like life would be better if she was with her dad (she's 6 and of course adores her father), partnered with being "sheltered in place" for nearly a month because of the Coronavirus had me release emotions I had bottled up months. My grandma sent this link to my cousin and I, I didn't look at it right away. Then about 20 min later my dad (whom I have been rebuilding a relationship with, we rarely talk) sent this to me with a personal message. Obviously Spirit wanted me to receive a much needed message this morning. I'm glad I was obedient! It's refreshing to hear other women from my culture connect honestly on topics that many of us relate to. I took notes, lol, great information and I appreciate how you made clear connections to where yoga, spirituality, and faith can translate to holistic living. A holistic lifestyle helped me gain a copious amount of introspection, now it's time to step outside and activate my community. Thank you Queen Goddess Anita. Peace and light!

Since this was three years ago I pray that she has come into the knowledge about YOGA & would not encourage others to participate in it at all. I have an adult family member (late-50s/female) who has been diagnosed as schizophrenic by a physician. She refuses to take pills or shots that were suggested by her physician. Family members can not convince her to take medication. Although she looks ok and seems to be functioning in life with this illness, she needs help. BUT we are told by professionals that we cannot force her to do what she doesn’t want to do. We have a group of family members who are strong in faith and believes medication is NOT the answer, believes she has demonic spirits of “hearing voices”, “insecurity”, “schizophrenia”, “guilt”, etc.. they believe that we need to study the Word of God with her, pray, cast out the demonic spirits. She is so deep in this mental state that it is so difficult to hold a conversation with her. She hears, listens, and occasionally she verbally responds, but she will not do what is asked of her. What can we do to truly help her?

How is faith and therapy connected?. The answer to the How-question lies in the why, which she is the answer to that question based on her background, which the nature of her background gifted her the form of Sensibility to connect the dots, find the why and answer the how. It is very important to understand that you can never be willing to solve a problem you had never experienced or you're not willing to experience. Problem is systemic, while solution is personal and cultural(values). Your history/background story holds the key to the path of and for your future.

@@reginaqueen7637 yoga was created from Hinduism, it wasn't ordained by God. We cannot take secular or demonic rituals and bring it to God to accept them, regardless of how much we think they are harmless, we cannot change its root meaning. This was the same issue with Israel, they kept adopting the rituals surrounding nations, they built altars called the "high places", these were never ordained by God and many of kings of Israel were supposed to tear them down, one finally did (see Kings 1&2). I believe Moses sons were killed for offering what God called "strange fire" something they thought God would accept. But by all means, do keep meditating on the scriptures, as far as poses, the only positions we are to use is on our knees or laying prostate.
