what does the filter do and how

At last guard band example, why don't u add different carrier fz with message signal sir, u only mentioned 100khz msg signal for all the channels. If it is same how will you retrieve the msg signal at demux with out having carrier signal.

Look, I've worked for two telephone companies...though I'm a bit rusty re the latest communication technologies, probably. Anyway, I wanted to review how it is that I have a landline and internet from ONE cable pair in my apt. (which would sound to a regular person, like a bit of "magic")..and I spoke to an ATT tech. across the street...when we had a MASSIVE break in service for one to three days (due to a MANIAC who had gotten into the "B-Box" on the street, and cut HUNDREDS of cable-pairs!!!)---WOW!! This technician advised that I probably didn't have the two services based on multiplexing....but it turned out that he was 100% WRONG. What is going on--consistent with the talk above--is that a mixed (FDM--COMPOS-ITE) signal comes from the CO via fiber-optic cable (and, just across the street, via hard wiring) to my unit (meaning there is ONE cable-pair entering my apt). Then, there is a tiny filter device which handles the "de-MUXing" for phone service....and (via a simple splitter, from that cable-pair already mentioned) my modem apparently de-MUXes the (digital) internet signal (with the "Ethernet" cable passing from the modem to my PC)(for DSL internet service). We are DEFINITELY talking about MULTIPLEXING!!!! NOTHING else would make ANY sense!!! I suppose I might add that that tech. thought that I might have "VOIPO" service, but he was incorrect. For that kind of service (which I HAPPEN to have from another company) there is a separate device which comes off the modem/router..which is then connected to a separate phone instrument. A regular "land-line" phone (in this situation) does NOT come from the modem, but from a (filtered) cable-pair)!!! Incidentally, in the "old days," EVERYTHING came directly from the local CO, but your cell-phones connect directly to a local cell-tower (a "whole new ball-game!!!"). ; )
