We can actually see a few mm of daylight through ours. We can afford new windows. I had to pad them. Up with newspaper and bags which you could see blowing up like a balloon. We was so cold and heating bill was massive. I'm going to try this. Wish I would have seen this when we moved in. Thank you. X

Class Paddy, got a bit dizzy watching the flame dancing around but I also found it very therapeutic. Any way I know now why my window is crocked.

Hi, i have a draughty window but i don't think it is from damaged hinges, i think it is from a misalignment on installation. The window shuts well on all 4 corners but i can see daylight from one edge because it is lined up too far to the right. How can i adjust this? Unfortunately it is the centre window in a bay window 3 stories up so i only have access from inside the building.

I had new upvc windows egress fire escape fitted in bedrooms 3 years ago I have never opened them. But I have wind blowing into the rooms both at the top and bottom of them

Great video. I actually changed the hinged 414mm and then the window wouldn’t close, top left off as hanging further over despite the hinge screws going in exactly the same holes on the new window. Help! Lol

You'll need to reposition the hinge if it's hanging over further too far

Hi paddy. Great video. Thanks. Problem we have is the trickle vent. Daughters bedroom is always a lot colder than ours. We in 3 storey house and both bedrooms are on the top floor. The difference in room temperature is a lot ! Is there anything we can do with the trickle vent in that room ? It’s quite tight against the frame as is ours. I’ve checked the frame etc like on your videos. When I did the flame off the lighter it was flickering a lot. Thanks

Not a lot you can do with trickle vents really. There's always a draught even when they're closed. I doubt the air coming through the vent alone would be the cause of big differences in temperature. Like in my house the north facing bedrooms are always colder because they get no sun during the day. Could be 2 or 3 degrees in difference between the south facing bedrooms.

Are they specific hinges to each window or simply sold as window hinges? Thanks a bunch

The type of hinge depends on the window opening. There are a few different types of openings. Top Hung or Side Hung. Different heights - 13mm or 17mm. Different length hinges for different sized windows - 10", 12" 16". Then different operations - egress, easy clean etc.

Hello, i got new windows fitted, now they are 2 years old. but I may as well have kept the old ones.. there is cold coming through the glass on all the windows. had the installers out twice , and all they do is adjust hinges, make no difference

Ridiculous. So if you get a flat tire on your car do you go and buy a new car? Why would you buy a new window when it can be fixed with a replacement part.

Hi Paddy - I have similar hinges on a window fitted around 2 years ago butnon investigating whistling noises, can clearly see daylight on the non locking side of the window (right to left outward opener). Ive adjusted the lock so that the right side now closes flush against the seal but i can still see a gap at the left - can these hinges be adjusted towards the window to close the gap or should I look to replace the seal to compensate? Cheers

Is the gap in the middle of the sash? between the top and bottom hinge? Or is the gap at the hinge?

The bigger gap is on the left side of the sash, pretty much running the entire length of the frame.

Can this be done from the inside? I've this problem with my bedroom window, but I'm in an apartment 2 floors up and the only way I could get at it from the outside would be to hire the likes of a cherry picker or something.

Hi, yes i always do this from the inside. Check out my other video showing the process. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNSnh5NqtrS-Yps.html Remove the screws holding the hinges to the frame and lift the sash into the room. Just take extra care, the bigger the sash the heavier it's going to be. Get someone to help you hold and lift it when your doing it.

Good video, I have an issue where the handle on my upvc window is really stiff to a point where I cannot fully close the handle. How do i loosen off the window so as the handle is no longer stiff. ?
