You don’t even know how frustrated I was when Bristlefrost did not even comment on Rosepetals death.

That is why I love Flintfang and Badgerfang. We only really learn about these two in Code of the Clans and they have the best apprentice mentor relationship. "I'd like to be called Badgerfang. Like you, because you were such a great mentor." Made me cry. :(

I miss little moments like when Tallstar got his 9 lives in Tallstar's revenge and he met his mentor after she died and she told him that she is proud on what he became - I wish that we had more little moments like that instead of the mentors just being pushed into the back after their apprentices become warriors.

The only time they did the toxic mentor apprentice thing RIGHT in warriors, was Lionpaw and Ashfur, and of course Tigerclaw and Ravenpaw. But Tigerclaw/Ravenpaw had lasting consequences to that toxicity, and Ashfur/Lionpaw was just like "ohhhhh the ex has to train Squilf's kit tee hee" until the fire scene then everything was like "oh in HINDSIGHT" type stuff. Like the only BIG blowout we get between Ash and Lion was when they fought and Firestar was like "HEY HEY HEY none of that shit" lol. I wish we saw more of the mentor/mentee relationship like in TPB, where you really felt the bond between mentor and mentee. We see a LITTLE bit of that in newer books through Medicine Cat mentor/mentee relationships, like Moth and Willow, Cinder and Leaf, Leaf and Jay, Jay and Alder then they again just crash at Puddle and Shadow-we don't see a lot of that growth there. It kinda sucks.

Wildfur truly was a victim of circumstance in my opinion. From the moment he was born he and his brother were set up to fail. Seems like Hawkstar didn’t consider what would happen in the long term and how it would affect Wildfur and the clan when he became a grown up. It’s all very interesting stuff and I look forward for the story to explore all these aspects of his life. Way to go Starclan Battles!

Exactly, I really wish the main books would do stuff like this more. With my own oc clan I try my best to really make it count with mentors. I’m particularly proud of the decisions I made with one certain group of cats: a bold, loud, childish cat got to be the apprentice of a mute cat who she would have to work hard and take it slow in order to understand them correctly. A nervous little cat was given the big shot clan deputy, originally trying to help them come out of their shell but it ended with him running off and getting himself injured.

Hey Tennelle! Ever since I was 7, my parents got a divorce. I had split custody, but it really shook me up. Leading to me maturing really fast, and getting anxiety and not depression, but constantly sad. I started off missing my dad, then my mom, and now I have been missing her more. I feel bad for suddenly leaving my pets a lot, but watching your videos and you build up characters, it makes me happy and inspires me. My sudden smarts and creativity at a young age helped me with my bad thoughts, and watching creators like you. Thank you, Tennelle.

I'm surprised you didn't add Spottedshadow and Peachpaw into the "wholesome" group of mentors and apprentices. When I saw Shifting Roots episode 1, my heart melted when at their interactions.

I remember in Mapleshade's vengeance when they decided to drive Mapleshade out of the clan she turned to her mentor (forgot the name) and he said he didn't trained a traitor and he didn't recognizes Mapleshade anymore That part gabe me chills o.o

Ya know what would make a good character moment? Frostshadow reaching out to Wildpaw after her mate, Tigerstripe, punished him for a sloppy day of training. Just a suggestion.

I love mentor apprentice relationships! I wish there was more focus on the relationship between swiftpaw and longtail. It was so nice to see longtail actually get mad that his apprentice wasn't getting the appreciation he deserved, and whem swiftpaw died longtail seemed so sad. I wish we got to see more of them

I've re-watched this episode so many times, but only now noticed what looks to be an anthro Mudnose in the title card wearing the same outfit my professors in college wore with the words "Warrior Code 101" next to him as if he had written it on the board. That's a nice little touch that gave me a smile.

I'm so glad you mentioned the bad warrior/apprentice dynamics in the books. One of the appeals of the first series for me was Firestar's relationships with Cinderpelt, Cloudtail and Brambleclaw. In my own fanfic I'm putting a lot of emphasis on mentoring and the effects the mentors have on the apprentices. The medicine apprentice Bonepaw has a strong connection with StarClan but doesn't understand his powers. His mentor Dawndream is the only one to initially support his claims to see starry cats or get weird predictions of the future, and she develops a motherly relationship with him as she raises him to be the new medicine cat. Lightningpaw's father is the deputy, Rabbitfur, and her mentor ended up being a highly ambitious and jealous warrior named Blizzardpool, who happens to despise her father for petty reasons. He trains her harshly, teaching her important skills but not having any patience for things like inexperience, questions, or exhaustion, and he insists that she needs to try and surpass her father if they're to have a relationship. Patchpaw is quiet, reserved and intellectual, so he was given the hot-headed and border-obsessed warrior Nettletail as a mentor. Despite their differences, he ends up respecting her a lot and wants to please her, even if she's a bit stubborn and hard to please at times. And Oddpaw got lost in her Clan's tunnels when she was a kit. Her experience made Fangface, a warrior whose only actual skill is in being able to navigate and thrive in the underground, specifically request her, though her mother is disappointed that the daughter of the former Clan leader got such an average and bland tom as Oddpaw's mentor.

dude i absolutely ADORE your characters and the amount of thought you put into every aspect of them and their lives. it really shines through and makes them feel real, and not like just another character in someone's series. i absolutely cannot wait to see more of them! as usual, your art is STUNNING. god, i am absolutely vibrating with excitement awaiting this series :D

I actually really liked shadow and puddle's mentor apprentice dynamic, and REALLY wish it was explored more. It had so , SO much potential. I also wish that lionblaze had lasting effects due to his mentor being such a bad person, that could have been such an interesting topic to explore. Flypaw and Twigbranch was really cool, but needed more development. Basically, so many good ideas, not great execution.

Honestly, I think the best generation for storytelling in Warriors was Bluestar, Tallstar, and Crookedstar's generation. That, or the DOTC generation. I think that there's just the right amount of thought put into the social dynamics, where they're ignored later on to make time for the 'magical prophecy' characters and the HUGE plots.

I try to write good mentor apprentice relationships in my fanfictions. Like Dustythorn doesn't really like climbing trees, and Falconpaw panicked during tree climbing lessons and almost fell. Or how Adderstrike's aggression and thirst for battle carried over to his apprentice, Stormsky.

My favorite villain idea is a character like Lionheart or Lionblaze mentoring a apprentice. He convinces the apprentice that his rival and deputy is not to be trusted and is evil. He comes leader and the now warrior becomes his deputy and learns of the evil cat their mentor really is, causing fear to enter the warrior as to if they'll fall down the same dark path

ah yes the apprentice mentor relationship. Every warrior, OC or otherwise, goes through it at some point. I know with my OC Spottedrabbit (And before the comments say anything I literally had this name generated for me by the official website) due to him both being a rather selective warrior, and the oldest deputy (Ranging around 40-ish moons) when he trains a warrior at ALL he treats them as if they were his own kit, while also giving a Iroh approach to training. And considering he's Riverclan you can see why. He's also blind in one eye AND has a bad leg but he literally said "No way in hell am I going to the Elders den." And worked around those problems. He's a tough SOB with equally rugged training but a tender heart. He is loyal to a fault however, earning him the nickname of dogheart from some of the other clans, mostly Thunder.

Thinking about it, I’m kinda surprised Hazelstar didn’t keep the prefix Raven for Spotty. I’d imagine he’d want to honor his daughter’s choice, even if it meant sacrificing his funny naming thing. (Of course I know it’s actually cause tennelle came up with her warrior name and description before deciding to make it a bit more realistic, it’s just a thing I noticed.)

Hey Tennelle! I know I’m commenting on a video that was posted a while ago, but I thought it would be better to comment on this one other than your other more recents videos. Anyways, I’ve watched your (many) drawing a blank videos and your OC’s (and the OC’s of the other people in StarClan Battles) are so amazing. I’ve been trying to make warrior OC’s for a while now but I find it hard to keep a character interesting. They usually get boring pretty quick. You’ve had your OC’s for a long time and I wondered how you came up with their ideas and how you keep them interesting! My art teacher taught me to draw a character and make their personality after, but I have no art skill whatsoever, LOL. Anyways, I hope you can answer to this and give me some help!
