Four-Step Guide for Still Life Art with Colour Pencils
==================
This step-by-step colored pencil drawing tutorial shows you my approach for still life drawing. My colour pencil still life artwork uses four key steps:
Step 1: Drawing initial shapes using loose lines
The goal in this step is to draw the initial shapes accurately.
Do not put a lot of pressure on the pencil.
Hold the pencil from the middle.
Use repeated circular motion to draw curvy lines.
Step 2: Draw the shadows
Draw the shadows using short repetitive lines.
Hold the pencil slightly closer to the tip. That will give you more control over your lines.
Step 3: Introduce darker values using a different colour
In this step, you can intensify the values using darker values. Select a colour that is different from the original colour. The contrast will give you a nice effect. The light first layer will be slightly visible below the second layer.
I use dark blue here to build the dark tone. The contrast between dark blue and orange used the first layer improves the colour quality. Hold the pencil close to the tip for more control. Repeat this process until you reach desired values and shadows. This is a relaxing step as the initial shapes and lines will guide you.
Step 4: Use a light-coloured top layer to make the drawing vibrant
I’m using bright yellow as the top layer to make the drawing vibrant.
A bright top layer gives more energy to the drawing and creates a more vivid and lively effect. Repeat this process until you achieve the desired outcome.
Use different colour combinations for different drawings. And invent your own colour palettes to find your style.
