I always find it interesting how there isn’t really any other fantasy creatures apart from dragons in the wings of fire universe.

I always knew and I was having a conversation about my brother about them, and he said "wait they were _humans_ this entire time?!" He thought they were big meerkats or something along the lines of that.

I thought they were weird hairy pale standing armadillos 😭

I thought they were like a kobold situation where they were bipedal flightless dragons

I thought scavengers were like Dragonborns or Lizardfolk from D&D. Humanoid, but still scaley and dragon-like

I always knew they were humans but kept picturing them as the scavengers from rain world because I think its funny

I read winters book first, so with the “bandit” I thought they were raccoons

I always knew they were humans because i read the graphic novels first, but it's funny to see what other people thought they were! They are described pretty strangely in the books, so i can see where the confusion comes from.

I always thought they were velociraptor creatures with scales and thickly condensed feathers along their backs that made the dark fluffy manes. I didn’t realize they weren’t until I was discussing the series with my friends at lunch and one said something about humans, and I asked what they meant and they just looked at me with a blank, confused expression and said “scavengers” and walked away

It probably would have been more accurate to measure by how many books in to the series Instead of how much time reading the series.

i always thought they were black-footed ferret-like creatures. especially with bandit, I pictured a mask. either that or raccoon bc again bandit and raccs are actual scavenging animals.

Right until at least the end of book one I thought scavengers were like some weird looking coyote or dog looking thing with no fur except on its head but it would’ve been cool if they were dinosaurs with feathers on them

Humanoid ratlike creatures… same. I started with the graphic novels when my mom got them for me for Christmas a few years ago and I didn’t realize until halfway through the first

I though they were a very small subspecies of dragon that were wingless and less advanced but were able to use weapons.

It took me until the book which had a literal drawing of a human in it, I forget which one, but there was a note at the end with a human and a sandwing. I thought they were some sort of maned raptor-y rodent-y like creature. I pictured something that would be built to quite literally scavenge in the way that rodents and vultures and such tend to. Seems like a potentially common misconception for those of us who didn't know lol.

I figured they were humans when i first read the series but before I started reading Wings of Fire I thought they were lil mini dragons

I figured it out within the first book, either around the time they mentioned they hoarded treasure, or when one pointed the swor- I mean pointy stick at Clay and Tsunami. Before that point my brain flicked through a few options each time they were mentioned. Some kind of goblin or kobold was on the list. As well as a gorilla or large monkey. and some other kind of non-specific fuzzy mammal also crossed my mind.

When the movie comes out I want scavengers to be like, big rats or something else in this video! Like having them be velociraptor-would be great! Also, it would explain how smart they are as they would be related to dragons! In book 15 we could even do a Civil War to add some spice. One group believes they are above dragons, and others believe they are magic or something

I was introduced to the series with Willoheart's dub of the book 1 graphic novel. Thanks to the fact there were pictures, I knew the whole time.

I read the graphic novels first so I knew straight away, but when crickets book came around and she said they looked like creepy monkey costumes I imagined a scary like monkey with big ears and hollow eyes 😅

I for some reason thought they looked almost like the Pokémon Patrat(I think I was watching Black & White at the time so that's probably a factor). I didn't realize until after I read the first two arcs about, and the only reason I realized is because someone mentioned it in a KZfaq video.

I started by reading the second graphic novel version first (which if my memory serves my right, had no scavenger) but when I saw the scavenger dens on the map I had deducted that they must be human settlements At the time i hated reading normal books but the wings of fire books (along with audio books) brought me in to the wonderful world of reading.

This is so interesting. Personally I always imagined them as humans, and never considered the possibility of them being pictured as anything else. This has brought to my attention that it doesn’t become apparent that they’re humans until, as you mentioned, in the brightest night. Lol!

While i always thought they were humans, it is hella fun to imagine them as something different, Dragonslayer and maybe The Brightest Night would hit different

I only got into the series last year. It's crazy to me that everyone else thought they weren't humans. It was so obvious, especially how emotionally they were and how there was emphasis that they might be intelligent, also no claws and only a tuft of hair on the head. When I read the first book, I knew immediately, and I was excited that the first arc only treated them like food! But then as the books went on and now dragons are acknowledging humans as sentient creatures and are on the verge of coexisting without anyone being eaten has taken out that fun aspect for me. I loved that this was a brutal kids series, but now it's growing soft with rainbows in the last arc, and I'm not into it. I love how the first arc was written and the mystery of the second, and I only liked the Scorching lore of the third arc. Other than that, I like the brutal and horrific history that to us sounds horrible but is normal for the older dragons of the series. It was what made me keep reading in the first place.

I started reading the book last week and I instantly knew they were describing humans😭😭 Cool to see what people thought of though!

I thought they were some weird reptilian monkey for a while, with really hairy paws and feet lol. Also I imagined their swords as basically the nail from Hollow Knight for like forever, even after I realized they were actually humans.

I thought they were like lizardfolk from general fantasy settings with a wee bit of fur on their heads. Imagine my extreme disappointment when I quickly realized after book 2 they were meant to be humans.

Always knew they were humans, because ‘Scavenger’ sounded exactly like the name I’d picture an advanced society of dragons would give to humans lol But it’s always entertaining when a creature in a book described by a character that has never seen them results in drastically different interpretations

I have a time line of humanity in the WOF universe up until the books and I’m going to share it here! (No one will see this but I’m find with that) Humanity develops as is known today, I’m not accounting for the difference in landmasses because that’s way to much work to figure out what would evolve were and how it would evolve. Anyways when the dragons took over (I forgor what it’s called in the books) humanity did not die out completely, clearly humans use swords and have complex clothing, now humanity would have certainly fought back, and humans value gold, so we can assume that gold was a form of currency in the “old world” and that humans had build civilization to the point of manipulation of metals, agriculture, ect. I would assume that technology was around high medieval times, since humans still use swords in the books, not firearms, this also rules out 20th century tech, as it’s been over a centuries since the Great War and the scars of it are still visible in France today. Post WW2 tech is also ruled out because of nuclear armaments, even if it was thousands of years later radiation would still be around, and I believe there’s little doubt that humans would not use nuclear weapons since humans are very rare in the books. Humanity is mostly driven into hiding, and a few centuries pass w and the remaining survivors h gather into community’s most likely in dense forests or secluded valleys, with enough population to sustain agriculture and production of tools of bronze or iron. With each generation the memory of great kingdoms fade away and adventures set out in search for riches, new locations to settle, or simply to explore beyond the protection of their communities, many die and some return with stories of giant lizards and of great palaces with gold. That’s basically what I’ve put together anyways.
