@@Messenger4now I never had an epidural, so I wasn't even considering that. 🤔 But that would definitely help too! But I'd gladly have triplets - NATURALLY - over and over and over again every day for a month before I would ever want to go through wds again. 😟😒😕 Heck, I'd be more likely to want an epidural for withdrawals than childbirth. That would at least help the RLS, the Cramp, the "discomfort" of the "genital area" (where it feels like your clitoris has been stimulated for hours and then the skin was ripped off like getting waxed 😳) and several of the other horrible symptoms of wd... 😕😟 But no! Congrats! I'm really happy for you that your wife decided to help you. I always admire those who beat their addiction. Knowing it's possible to fix your life knowing there's people out there that have done what I thought was impossible gives me hope I will make it through as well. Those who share their experiences don't know how much it helps when you're about to give up, it gives you the strength knowing somone who actully know what it's like to go through this tell you it's possible, it's not the same somone telling you you can do it when they have no idea what it's like, but hearing somone who knows what it's like that helps a lot since you understand it firsthand and made it out gives so much hope. so thanks for sharing.

Dude when I first got addicted to fentenyl 5 years ago. Right when they first started taking over as the fake blues. I went to my pcp doctor (primary care doctor) I said I need help with opiod addiction and he referred me to another doctors office. I called them asap and the number was to a pain management clinic who prescribed pain pills and physical therapy.. so yes it's disgusting how many doctors out there are oblivious to the real medical info needed to treat patients. This is how exactly the opiod problem started by misinformation from the pharmaceutical companies pushing misinformation from every doctor from Cali to new York

I am writing this to provide hope. I was addicted to heroin for 5 years smoking only about 3 grams a day. Then went to suboxone 16mg a day for about 5 years and I wanted off the suboxone as it felt similar (money wise and time and chained down feeling) as the heroin. My doc said “that’s not a good idea” that’s when I knew it was about her money! I then started my very own tapering system it was so minuscule that I felt no withdraw symptoms EVER!!’ I created a 12 Month tapering plan (based on strips not tablets) that I would like to share of your interested. The last day I literally forgot to take my tiny spec of suboxone and have never touched it since. 3 years clean.

Hi Freddy, there is a definite art to tapering off Suboxone isn't there and having strips makes it so much easier. Personally, it took me 3 years to taper down from 12 mg to zero and towards the end I was cutting 2 mg strips into 8 equal 0.25 mg pieces. I was absolutely gob smacked at how powerful 0.25 mg was. I went 0.25 mg daily then to 0.25 mg every 2nd day, then every 3rd and so on but it still took a long time before I could go off it entirely. Once off it, I would say it still took a good couple of years to say I felt 'ok' and that was helped along with exercise and nutrition. It was a long, long, long road back…

@7marspike
@7marspike 4 жыл бұрын
@@marilynb9161 Hi Marilyn, I will answer as briefly as I can but at the same time I don't want to over step the mark by hijacking Dr B's post. It is a long and involved answer with many solutions but one of the hardest opiate withdrawal symptoms to deal with is lack of energy, or better said, EXTREME FATIGUE. Whether you’re in the acute or post-acute opiate withdrawal phase, getting energy can feel impossible. Many people have suffered from this debilitating shortage of energy for days, weeks, and even months after stopping the use of opiates. Unfortunately there is no fast track back but there is so much we can do to help the healing process. There are many nutrients, supplements and activities we can engage in to help getting back to normal. In a nutshell, when we take opioids whether prescribed or not, our brains get a surge of neurotransmitters (NT's) mainly dopamine which gives us that euphoria. In as little as 2 to 4 weeks our brains detecting the surge in NT's start to produce less and less of our own NT's which is vital to our normal functioning. It doesn't take long before the brain becomes extremely reliant on the opioid to do that. That is why initially we feel so good on opioids but not to far down the track we find we need the opioid to just feel 'normal'. Opioids and all drugs pretty much destroy your body and brain’s production of it’s own natural feel good chemicals. This creates a neurotransmitter imbalance or chemical deficiency and depending on the deficiency it can cause a wide range of physical, mental and emotional health problems if not treated correctly. When your neurotransmitters are low or imbalanced, like they almost always are after addiction, you will likely feel flat, lifeless, depressed, nervous, anxious, stressed and unable to enjoy the things that use to bring you pleasure and joy in life. It is the deficiency in our neurotransmitter levels which virtually causes all of our withdrawal symptoms. Anyway, that is the extreme short version and once again I don't want to show bad manners by hijacking Dr B's post. I would be happy to email you some helpful information if that is permitted (mark.wulff11@gmail.com). I have absolutely no financial or any kind of vested interest whatsoever in any information I provide and it is all evidence based. Having been there I try to help as many people as I possibly can.

I have convulsions if I take half a quarter off my dose. Got a Dr to work with me and she almost got me arrested by LYING TO A PHARMACIST saying she didn't know about a refill but my emails prior to that say otherwise! She even wrote a plan to go with my last refill from my old Dr. I don't trust her with my life. Took me five years of begging her and she ALWAYS said "short half life. I can have u off in 5 days or 14 if u wanna take it slow". But this time I brought in a whole presentation. And she listened. But lied!!! And she sometimes is nice and sometimes goes off on me telling me I'm not smart ... What do I do? When I said I MIGHT have found a Dr to take over she said no she'll do it and then tried saying I hoarder my MAT meds when I REALLY CTd them for a benzo wise listed Dr to save my life (she said stop immediately and she'd help me when I tested clean). 6 months went by and I was STILL in full blown withdrawal. So I had extra meds. She threatened me and said I'm Dr shopping when I've never seen any Dr or gotten any different meds from anyone except a dentist wrote me an antibiotic!

@eziekkiel5876
@eziekkiel5876 Жыл бұрын
@@joeweeks7191 Man, there's so much to say. It's not going to be easy, but there are ways to make it near tolerable. If you can muster up the willpower, you should start by slowly lowering your daily intake. Do that until you can get the dose as low as possible. Though I'm telling you now that will be very difficult to do that on your own without a trusted person to monitor your intake and provide you with moral and psychological support. You will not be able to quit a severe dependence without SOME form of support from at least one or more persons. There are medications you can use to dampen the effects of some withdrawal symptoms such as benzodiazepines but those are also highly addictive and you don't want to start another addiction. So use with extreme caution. 9 months is not a terribly long addiction. I know the withdrawals will still suck real bad. But you should quit now before it ruins the rest of your life. Oxycodone has a similar half-life to morphine but is almost twice as strong. And because you are snorting them, the drug is absorbed more rapidly. This also means it will leave your body quicker. What this means for you is that your withdrawal will start quicker, but it will also be shorter in duration. After about 7 days of total abstinence, you would be over 80-90% of the withdrawal. You won't feel completely normal, but the vast majority of the pain and anguish that makes it "hell on earth" should be over and you will feel like yourself again soon. Every time during withdrawal when hours feel like days you must remind yourself THAT IT WILL END. Only 7 days to go, 6, 5 et cetera. Do things to distract yourself like taking a walk. Even doing things like taking a hot bath and then immediately taking a cold shower. Doing this will cause your brain to release larger than normal amounts of dopamine. All these things you can do on your own. But your best bet is to go to an actual place that treats addiction. Google will provide ratings for the ones in your area. Of course this is not possible for everyone. I live in Canada and since addiction is a healthcare problem, addiction treatment is free of charge just like going to any other doctor. Anyways I've typed enough for now lol. If you want to talk more about it or have any questions, please just respond to my comment.

@Malcolm Caden yeah fuck it for you, fair do's and i hate the shit also. Ive tried most all treatments and would rather just endure through the few days it takes to become functional. The only decent method of ccoming off ive accomplished without severe pain etc i ever experienced was a detox 5 clinic ( at the time was the name )They put you under anesthetic, then when you're out pump you fill of some opiate flushing system then wake you ip at the end of the week. That cost m 5 gees around 10 years back but anyone wjo can afford and is that desperateit's the least painful method i lknew. I also used to hear about something called ibugain i think, might be mixing the mame up but there was a network of places doing it, pretty much illegaly but they helped many an addict quit with theit method and tge relapse rates was tiny. There,'s many ways to make it easier but the work only just begins at that point

So refreshing to see a doctor who knows what they are not only talking about but has a thorough understanding of opioid addiction. Normally I hear this kind of information from non medically qualified sources e.g. Matt Finch. Sadly, and I am sure these doctors are excellent in every other respect, but when it comes to opioid addiction, and specifically codeine addiction which is so under estimated, many doctors just don't understand and don't seem to have proper training in this area.

The only way to stop the madness is to realize that you will NOT miss the drug. Those withdrawal go away! Always. For some longer than for others, but you will heal. @@Welovelife614 My friend, a few undervalued strategies: (1) Diet. Avoid sugary and processed foods, as those will give you a shot of quick energy, but you will crash within minutes, making you feel worn out and lazy. Natural is the way to go, things like fruits, vegetables, legumes, and roots. (2) Exercise. Endorphins, the body's natural opioids, are released as you exercise, the reason many people get "addicted" to running, weight lifting, and even stretching. Those chemicals will make you feel fantastic, even after a tiring workout. (3) Faith! Even after five years clean, you may get the occasional craving. However, a positive attitude goes far! "I'm gonna try" is a set-up for failure. Instead, "I'm gonna do it" is better, as the mind follows the body. This is where discipline plays a crucial role! It reminds me of boot camp. At times, I wanted to quit, as those nasty drill sergeants were doing everything possible to break recruits. But, I kept telling myself, "hang in there," this is going away soon, and boot camp will be a bad memory. Likewise, in recovery the first few weeks are hell. Literally!! But as your brain heals, so does your mindset. It's paramount that you keep busy, as doing nothing is = planning a hit. The first few weeks will determine outcomes. You put the same amount of energy (at a minimum) as you did when active.Good luck, my friend. God is with you. Ask Him to DO IT FOR YOU, NOT to help you do it.

I can certainly appreciate the laymen approach to describing something so complex and intricate. I won't attempt to dissuade or disagree with any of it. Though, I will add a detail to your discussion that I believe is integral. Everyone has a choice in the beginning. The choice to continue is solely on the individual. BUT, there comes a point in an addict's journey where there is no longer an option. You touched upon, "getting and keeping well." Once you're that far into addiction, there is no more choice. Just to simply function and move about as a typical individual would is only possible through continued use of your drug. The addiction has taken over any and all options the person use to have to put the drug down and function. After using pills for 4 years, smoking heroin for 5 and shooting heroin for one, I'm now 2 years clean. It truly is something that's impossible to describe to an individual whom hasn't experienced it for themselves. But, your descriptions are pretty damn good, I must admit.

I was on and off pills more years. I always got them from a dr. Then I switched to snorting heroin for about 6 months. Then I went to rehab and was put on sub. I have been on sub for four years. I went had no interest in being in withdrawals for months so I switched back to a short acting opiate for a month and came off of that. I felt little to no symptoms because I used magnesium and hylands restless legs tablets, generic Imodium containing loperamide, gabapentin, vitamin c, and Xanax. Gabapentin makes me loopy but that is the only symptom I feel. It’s possible to get off of these things. Just get the light the first part then start going to meetings, talk to people, get to a psychiatrist for antidepressants to help with PAWS, and exercise when you’re up for it. Prayers for everyone going through it.

I've ad 6 back surgeries and now waiting for the mother surgery since the previous ones caused more issues and has caused me to become disabled. I've been on opioids for the past 10 years and would love to get off of those but wouldn't be able to walk..;-( That said, I know the feeling of withdrawals and he's right on with the details as I have those every morning because I refuse to take the opioids before going to sleep so that my body can sort of repair itself a little overnight but unfortunately I wake up feeling dysphoria ever morning and it's horrible to a point where going to bed isn't fun anymore. There's no better feeling than hearing someone use the words in our head that no one else seems to understand. Right after the 12 minute mark....i am almost ecstatic you mentioned this because many clinicians i feel do not....you addressed pretty much if i may sum it up quickly...that if you already had depression or any mental health issue or distress prior to use that when a person gets 'clean' the physician needs to address that issue also. People i feel who have mental health distress prior to use who then begin to or do use...use alot to take care of that mental health issue and if not addressed they will relapse. Not sure if i stated what i meant correctly but you nailed this perfectly and happy you as a respected physician stated this!!!

You got a rough first week, usually takes until day 6 or day 7 to stop throwing up and actually be able to hold down only the most docile of foods, like yogurt and such, sweet foods and fruits are best as you crave the sugar. So day 2 thru 6 are the worst. After week one its much more bearable but the whole second week will include some restless legs and jitteryness, goosebumps, trouble with temperature regulation and some trouble sleeping, but by week 2 expect at least some sleep, 4 to 6 hours a night with some trouble falling asleep initially due to tossing and turning. Generally things improve mostly after those 2 weeks. This is assuming IV use of heroin, half a gram or more a day.

That was the most clear way i’ve heard someone explain it. As someone young that struggles with addiction. Now sober, i think people should first understand people use because they’re in pain. I’ve tried to explain to people close to me why would someone like me that’s seen as a “normal person” use and Why don’t i just stop? It’s simple i’m in pain. I took opioids from 14 cuz of isolation, family issues, being in the system and a complex amount of things and stopped now at 18, hopefully i can continue. Withdrawal is something that’s hard to explain. I want to remake my life and not wait till i’m older but i wish people understood addiction better

Most doctor have 0 ethics these days . They totally screw you up and do harm for as much money as they can make off you then do not care if you live or die. Actually if they made enough money off you they would rather you die so they can go on to their next victom with out any survivors to out them.

I wish anyone attempting to get abstinence all the love and strength in the world we are so much more the the addiction. Jay

This is encouraging, 1 month off and starting to have "good days." Are there good moments in the harder days? Do you limit caffeine so your sleep can restore your health? I'm starting along this road now.

Hey Doc B I have questions that I’m sure impact others too... First, thank you for your content and caring! I think this question is worth a go from you. Q- What is the pain relief solution for someone that has had a severe traumatic motorcycle (or any) accident and had no other options back in 2004 other than to accept relief from a cocktail of opioids that has increased over the years! I see a pain management doctor and am a father, husband and regular guy with no other drug history. I want off the meds! Period, because they own me & I hate it! I have been under her care for 15+ years. And worry about being able to manage my pain if she retires or dies due to how vilified opioid uses are... But I have no alternative to manage the pain from my near death injuries. I broadsided a pick up at 60+ MPH and have multiple injuries, though with meds I’m able to function & run a company with employees. HELP, Please! If I get off the opioid cocktail, what will address the pain & how do I manage transitioning? Thank you for your help in advance!

I have been on Percocet and Morphine for GBS the past 4 years. I have never abused me scripts to get "High". I always take as prescribed. Does all this still apply if my Dr. "weens" me off my meds eventually? I know my Dr. will not ween me off fast. My Dr. said i would slowly be weened off. Will all these horrific side effects apply to me being weened off? Because i know there is a difference between "body dependence" and "addiction".

Very interesting, thank you. I would love to know more about epilepsy and non epileptic dissociative seizures due to psychological issues. And any other reasons for seizures, plus the way the treatment can vary for each condition. How to tell which kind of seizure someone has had when they have more than 1 condition causing seizures. Plus any other significant factors to consider

I was getting 120 10/325 lorecets from my family doctor & unbeknownst to him I was going to about 6 or 7 different pill mills a month, all between 2000 & 2015 before the government crack down. I averaged 8 pills a day for 15 years. The good doctor nailed it on the head. It took me about 10 months before I was completely 100% normal. Godspeed to those that are going through this vicious cycle. Never thought I would say this but I think God for the government cracking down on opiates. I did the above cold turkey but I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone

I've done methadone maintenance, suboxone maintenance, dosed myself with imodium for months at a time, all of the above. All because I wanted to run away from a feeling of losing my sons mom when I was 18, and picking up heroin. I'm 28 now and I can honestly say the only time I didnt crave heroin and use heroin was when I was on methadone maintenance in Oregon and went to my groups. I want to get back to that. I just dont have the money you have to pay in california before you can switch to medi-cal insurance paying for your maintenance. Its dumb, Portland Oregon does it right I made an appointment had state insurance and they signed me up. Here in California they want you to pay 325$ for the first 21 days or so and then they put you on insurance pay. God bless those who feel they dont have a way...2yrs straight of slamming blk again hopefully I get back before it's too late. But it seems better at times to just be gone, its no way to live. Fuck heroin, oh I'm sick man I cant go, i cant eat, I dont wanna do this or that tell I'm well...etc

Doctor B. Im 40 years old and have been on Oxycodone for 5 years. I was self medicating the last 3 years and was taking 50 mg of oxycodone a day. I am now on my second day of quitting. I wouldnt say im healthy....im 100 pounds overweight, i have hypertension, type 2 diabetes and bi polar disease. I know you said the short term withdrawal would be about a week. With my health issues, how do you see the longterm withdrawal syndrome playing out for me. I dont want this drug to rule my life anymore. I want to be able to enjoy life without needing to take oxycodone to do so.

Late reply but try magnesium to calm muscles. Citrate is good and glycinate is better (glycine works to calm muscles along with mg). I’ve used it for yrs and it works. Only Side effect of you take too much (even 900mg is safe) is loose stool and since opiates often constipate it balances out. You can also buy magnesium gel and apply it right to your legs it might sting a bit but it helps. Best of luck.

I started tapering on May 23rd of 2021, it's obviously been a nightmare, and here I am in January of 22, I'm down to just 2 doses from 5 doses daily and the withdrawal along with all the other symptoms show no signs of slowing down...this is agony. I've been on Valium since 1989 and Oxycodone and Hydrocodone since 2006, so 33 years for the Benzo and 15 years for the opiates. I'm 58 with other health conditions, can someone help me understand what I'm doing wrong?
