in the realistic version, the idea of simplicity in the character itself induces a sense of fear because you become exceedingly aware that in of itself, the small white blob can cause chaos and there isn't anything that it's hiding from you. There are no weapons, there are no facial expressions aside from a smile, there is _nothing_ you don't see so it's terrifying and yet you know what it's capable of. And that's why the Dream blob is so menacing :)

YES EXACTLY !! It's so satirical and ironic that it seems so ominous and oddly terrifying. It knows it's perceived as a god and it uses that to his advantage. It's a cute character in concept; a smiling blob; nothing much to it. Something that would come out of a quick doodle on a math notebook, but that makes the concept of Dream so horrifying. So straightforward yet it _has_ to be hiding something... too simple, too cute for the menace that society that the Dream SMP has become; as Techno says, the only universal language is violence, and Dream knows it. Yet he refrains from direct aggression, instead using vessels. He is still the most powerful in the server -- at least, in his mind -- and while he may not be menacing in the obvious way, his design makes you look twice and step away; perhaps in intimidation or from the whispers of his existence. His existence as a white blob is so powerful; a human body simply cannot convey the simple creepiness that his character and personality has. He is, in my humble opinion, the most interesting design on the Dream SMP.

exactly! it plays into the Uncanny Valley because it's hard to read into the blob's ceaseless smile. it never changes, it's just a smile, just a static expression that never changes. even as a mask, like in the SAD-ist style, it stays unmoving and hides the intentions of the wearer behind a simple smiley face.
