This is a great hidden gem that often gets over looked amongst all their epics, but it’s one of my favorites. Good choice! A couple other “hidden” tracks you might enjoy from them. Misunderstood (one hell of a unique guitar solo, Petrucci learned to play it backwards so they could reverse it on the album) is another favorite of mine with really strong writing, and These Walls from Octavarium is another woefully underrated song featuring some of the best stick work I’ve heard from Portnoy.

This Dying Soul is part 2 of The Glass Prison. There are five parts over five albums that chronicle the drummers (Mike Portnoy) addiction to alcohol. The whole suite is nicknamed the AA Saga. You should check it out in it's entirety. The Glass Prison This Dying Soul The Root of All Evil Repentance The Shattered Fortress The whole thing will leave you speechless!!

@@sonicallydisruptive - As far as instrumentals. Instrumedley includes major parts of The Dance of Eternity but since it is medley of instrumentals from various albums it goes to insane places. Train of Thought is their most "metal" album where most of the songs are pretty heavy. If you like that, stick to this album, although there are other heavy songs spread across their discography. As for other Dream Theater songs: Heavy: As I Am Panic Attack The Enemy Inside Melodic: The Best of Times Another Day Epic (10+ minutes) The Glass Prison Octavarium Change of Seasons Learning to Live

My upload history shows I've been into these guys for a long time, and you picked one of my absolute favourites. I remember I had a hard time at one point admitting I liked Opeth more than DT because they were my first real dive into modern prog metal, but I do still listen to them very regularly and it's not really a competition anyways we're all lucky to have this music to explore.

@@sonicallydisruptive I'll start by saying that Metropolis II: Scenes From A Memory is quite possibly one of the greatest concept albums ever and needs to be experienced as such. If I were put on the spot for a classic song I can jam Voices from their 1994 album awake any day. That album had a bit more grit than their first two offerings.

@@sonicallydisruptive - Scenes from a Memory (concept album) listened to start to finish and for me over and over again for over a year is maybe one of the best musical compositions I've heard in my life. It is amazing. The story is cool. Or you can watch the Scenes from New York concert where they do the entire thing live start to finish with an almost flawless performance. The flaws you likely wouldn't even notice. (mainly Portnoy's backing vocals in some places)

Not a bad song. It's an average type song to me from them but certainly not bad. But there are very few Dream Theater songs NOT on the Astonishing album I don't like. The Astonishing album was them trying their damndest to sound like Mr. Roboto for some reason. LOL. You should do them live. They sound exactly the same even when they occasionally extend the songs.

Hmm, I've tried to get into Dream Theater several times but LaBrie's vocals ruin a lot of it for me personally. Most of their songs lack 'something'. There are some really good parts here and there but overall it's just not for me. Too "nice" with progressive rhythm changes that often feel too constructed. If they'd had a different vocalist I'd be more into DT than I am.
