@@user-pb1gm4wk7c he indeed said that but to be fair he also said it's not because JL sings badly but rather because, given the complexity of their songs he needs to be tight with the rythm section, he said for instance he does not follow jordan in the fast keyboard/guitar harmonizations, they rather prefer to just do their own thing and trust the other will do as well.

Well we age so everything becomes more difficult to do, period. You can call it bad and painfull and what not, but you gotta realize that this man has been singing for about 30 years. Things change. If you don't like it, don't listen to it anymore. You can also continue listening and have some respect for the man who made it big time globally and is doing his best to give the audience a great time. I am sure there will be a time when James realizes that he cannot do this anymore. Maybe that will be the day he either stops or continues to sing songs like e.g. 'Invisible monster', where they keys don't go that high. Remember, this is a song from 1992, where James was about 20-25 years old.

it's way too late to replace Labrie. the band is in the tail end of their career so replacing him now would be pointless and i don't see them quitting until at least one of the guys is physically incapable of continuing to tour. the time to replace him was probably around the Systematic Chaos era but alas they chose to stick with him.

I love James and will defend him as still being a great singer with the right songs. However I think the older stuff, especially the first 2 albums, is way out of his reach these days (even when tuned half a step down). I get Pull Me Under is the "Greatest Hit", but man they really dont need to play it anymore. Sub this out with something from Distance Over Time, Train of Thought or even Self Titled and I think it would work so much better. Edit: Saw them live in manchester last night and James sounded pretty good, much better than in this video. Think James maybe just needs longer vocal rest between shows than he's been getting.

I think he ruptured something within his vocal chords years ago, age is a massive factor. He surely can't hit the notes he once did back in the 80's and 90's.. if you remember the live at buddokan 2017? A change of seasons was played in E flat tune not standard because of his pitch. Regardless, it's amazing to see them still composed and doing well regardless of the singing

@@petrucci973 he sure did, but that was in 1994. The majority of Dream Theater's career has been post vocal chord rupture. These days it's just general wear and tear. As you age, you simply lose power and range in those higher notes. That's fine, but they just don't need to be playing the older stuff. Hell, his finest vocal performances (imo) is the Astonishing, and that was 2015. DT fans arent really the type to feel robbed if they don't play 'the hits' yknow?

James certainly *was* a great vocalist - ironically, especially after that vocal rupture he had mid 90s. He recovered fully, and even sang better for a long time (he used to scream the high notes much more before that rupture happened), but it has all taken its toll over the years. They probably could ask Dug Pinnick of Kings X to step in, as they're good friends!? 🤔😎👍

They are already huge. Where have you been? One of the biggest bands out there. James is an incredible vocalist and has an extraordinary range. This song was written back when James could hit a D5 with ease. Then the vocal injury happened in 1994. It changed everything. He has never hit that high note ever since. James was told he would never sing again. He's still singing, against all odds. I'm in his favor and will always love his vocals, no matter what. Give the man some respect.

Portnoy is gonna have to play to the ProTools session click like Mangini did so they can run pre programmed vocal tracks like they did in Rio… James basically sang along with his younger self. Otherwise it’s gonna be a short reunion… James did his time served well and honorably… He’s in a 60s and obviously he’s doing that throat by continuing to hammer it every night. He’s gonna give Jordan a perfect pitch induced stroke.

Last time I saw them Petrucci still had frosted tips and a goatee. I think lebrie probly sounded fine but I was right in the front mesmerized by everybody else. To be fair to him this music cannot be easy to keep up with for all these years

I am a huge fan of James Labrie, and thanks to him I became interested in singing as such. For me, his career already spoke for itself. Although I would be lying if I say that it sounds just as good as before or that it sounds very good, however it is not something to attack it so much. He had vocal problems, he had a complicated career in which he sang badly at many concerts, he had someone teach him incorrect vocal technique that he still maintains to this day, and he is singing the song in the same key as when it came out but now more than 20 years later. What James needs is to correct his vocal technique, and by improving that aspect he will be able to stay more in Dream theater, and he would stop sounding drowned and pushed. Yes, it seems strange to me that he doesn't do it, but doing it would be the best solution for him and for the band.

James is getting older. So as his vocal. Guitar could change strings and can be set up, Drums can also change drum heads, drums sticks. Keyboard are programmed to sound amazing. But our vocal range, there is nothing we can do when we aged. At least, he's still trying to sing for us.

And this is the reason Liquid Tension Experiment is better 🤣 just bring in Myung as a second bass player and do a tour and throw in a Dream Theater Instrumental mashup. People will be happy because it's a reunion for Portnoy and they don't have to listen to Labrie attempt this anymore

Ayuden a nuestro cantor. ♥
