This pick was for May being Mental Health Awareness Month. As it’s part of a larger piece broken down into several tracks it’s not typically one of their more popular songs but since I have several autistic people in my life I absolutely love the message. I also wanted you guys to see what DT looks like live. It also just has a great melody that flows so nicely together. Joel, I think the “sing along” from James was his effort to try and get the Japanese crowd (typically very reserved) to break out of their shells. He doesn’t do that very often. Also the studio version doesn’t have the guitar plucking at the end so you’ll probably enjoy that version more. I think Dream Theater might be your Rancid 🤣 Chuck, I appreciate you catching the fact that John Pettruci switched guitars mid song. I’m pretty determined to find at least one DT song that Joel really enjoys so until then Chuck steals another Cell.

This isn't actually a "song", it's just one part of "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence", a 42-minute behemoth of a song that deals with mental illness, presenting six different cases (this one's about autism). As a whole (all six parts), it's considered one of Dream Theater's most epic prog metal masterpieces, together with "Octavarium" and the entire "Metropolis Part II: Scenes From a Memory" album.

Yeah I chose this for Mental Health Awareness Month since it’s about Autism. I know that there are plenty of other MH jams from DT but not many bands out there have a song about the spectrum

I always appreciate a DT recommendation (thanks to whoever made it), but an odd pick since this piece is part of a much bigger song. I feel this song is so much better in context of “Six Degrees” as you’ve been through so many emotions at that point, this is like a breath of fresh air

This song is inspired by Peter Gabriel's Solsbury Hill. Notice how Solsbury Hill and Solitary Shell are similar titles which Dream Theater intended I believe.

I love Dream Theater, but this song has to be taken with a grain of salt. It’s part of a concept album so it sounds weak on its own. In the context of the rest of the album it makes sense that it sounds this way. There was no single on the album to get people interested. This was probably the closest thing to that, but it was still too long. I mean this band has a 77 minute long song that was broken up on the album to be 12 songs. And the band Bull of Heaven laughs at them because they have a song that is 3000 years long, which is part of a 21,000 year long album. And no, those numbers weren’t typos
