It does it automatically. Download Mi home app and connect the vacuum. Mapping works better in good light conditions as this model uses a camera.

Launch Mi Home APP, go to settings - Experimental Feature and enable “Map Saving”. After the feature is active, the robot will learn the household environment by cleaning 3 times then draw a complete map.

yes, even without mapping. Mapping makes it smarter and allows you to e.g. clean parts of your flat.
