We all love the W900. Part of that is the well earned reputation for having the best in class durability, longevity, and of course style. Today, we're going to talk a look at some of the reasons as to why the W900 has earned all of those.

Nice to see trucks with these Cat engines . This W900 and 550 hp Cat - must make a very good combo for ripping out tree stumps ! Cat Diesel Power ..........

The best things of the old one is, there is a great CAT engine in it and it doesn't have a DEF system.

My dad 96' W900L have over 2 million miles and she still run. His came with the 76' studio sleeper before they made the 86' studio

First truck I ever drove had a Cat... and I’ve loved them. I’ve driven a lot of Cummins, but man I wish we could still run those yellow beasts! Oregon emissions laws are killing it.

The truck would get on the freeway at 55 loaded with the same rears and transmission as the N14 Cummins with 100,000 less miles that wouldn’t make it to 40 on the same ramp. Both engines rated the same, both wildly different. Caterpillars in my experience also like to shift at the lower end of the RPM range.

They rebuilt it and even gave it a fresh coat of yellow Cat paint.

@@KenworthofRichfield Yeah, the ole rain! Leave it up to it to mess up a nicely cleaned truck and I would definitely know that. My truck is clean every day and all it takes is for a lil rain shower and it all ruined. When it rains it makes my days even longer, but I don't mind the cleaning. Plus, I have a reputation to uphold and maintain.

I bought my second truck. Another w900l. Went from a 2004 mbn accert cat to 2011 550 isx cummins. Got a full delete and hotter files tuned to 565. Best decision of my life. I look forward to ordering a brand new one someday. Kenworth has a far more superior interior compared to peterbilt

Definitely! There's a local car dealership here that has a car wash attached that has a sign that says "a clean car is always worth more"

KENWORTH... THAT'S the statement ;) the only thing that gave it away it was older was the kenworth emblem on the side of the hood haha it just needed a MX13 thrown in :) what killed the dinosaur... KW did Flintstone... K.W.. ;)

Kenworth of Richfield yes both are. But look how great of shape the red one is in. How many miles is on the rebuild? Well I have to keep my 680 it’s just about payed for. Banks do not want to loan money on the older trucks. And getting harder to get loans on newer trucks.

Thanks again for another great video. Interesting how the rear gears are the same, can't the newer Cummins runs down the road at a lower rpm? Is anyone down speeding the newer engines with really high rear gears? Thanks again

That's a super interesting point that you bring up Mark. Yes, the gears could be lower (numerically) in the newer truck and it would work just great. The mentality of the buyer of a new W900 is still of old school gearing, so that's what most of them are setup with now. You could pretty easily run a 3.25 or so in the new one without an issue.

My 2020 t880 has 336 rears on tall 22.5 rubber. Interstate running in a 70mph zone I top out at 1500rpm 74 mph. She's nice. Where 336 rears suck is 55mph 2 lane eastern KY OH all of Indians. 10speed manual it has the old 9 speed syndrome 10th you lug 9 you over rev TALL GEARS SUCK. the cat is cool. If you can afford to fix it. For my running I'd put in my truck now a 13 speed over and 370 rears. Single 150 gal drivers side def drivers side and a stack passenger side. It's got a grass burner now and when it's cold I have a flashback to when I flamed a turbo. and lose the air flairing. I'd still get 6 mpg avg like now. And not lug the motor as much.

Kenworth of Richfield it’s very nice but it will take someone with lots of cash for that. Also it’s missing an APU. I hate idling. What kind of financing could be done on that? Just curious.

Cat motors sounds good and all, but the newer quieter engine and trucks are what I'm leaning toward.

@@KenworthofRichfield I've been driving for over 20 years and driven trucks with 6-71 Detroit's, CAT's, Cummins, but I'm enjoying the quietness of my Paccar. If I'd had to drive a pre emissions truck, I would. I'm able and willing to accept and adapt to the next generation of trucks.

@@waynenorbreyjr9371 there's so many out there that look at a truck just because it has a different looking hood on it it's a plastic piece of junk. Times are changing yea the emissions have been less than desirable but I'd be proud to drive any Paccar truck out there.

You youngsters wanting the new stuff is all well and good till you get that first bill to repair a failed emissions system. They’re not cheap!!
