Carving the Berserkers bad teeth see it here • Dremel 4000 chessmen.
Probably the most iconic chess set in the world - The Lewis Chessmen - In this video I carve the king with his wonderfully worried look or is it fear, who knows? Well it could not of been easy to be the king in the 12th century. So here I go taking on Oak in this carving with the Dremel 4000, this carving was not easy, oak is a hard wood to carve.

I really cannot believe it 😂 I'm American and visited the British museum last week. I was taken aback by the Lewis Chessmen. Their expressions especially, much like you said. I thought it might be a fun project to recreate. Searched "dremel chessmen" and yours is the first result. Great history lesson on the root canal in the ivory, I never would have considered it. The wood hardness demonstration was neat too. It's a two year old video, but it really made me smile to find something so fitting. Cheers 👍

Lovely little carve Matt, definitely the shield biter next! Great informative video as usual, your enthusiasm for these old carvings shines through. Thanks to Amelia for demonstrating the difficulties of carving bone 😄. I watched twice, once on slow mo to note down the bits you used!

cheers Claire. That Shield biter scares me more complex than you think to get those expressions right. Amelia been chewing on that bone for a few weeks now😁 I should do a burr video sometime.

Hi Davit. Glad you liked the video. I was looking if someone had done a similar video but couldn't find any. All of the pieces are amazing, I looked at 3d models of them which show s the hollow at the base. check them out here www.nms.ac.uk/lewischesspieces

Great carve bud oak is tough so awesome job, you should try one of the Knights from it lol, the teeth would be a real challenge. Thanks for sharing dude

hi, im looking to get into carving, what project would you reccomend to a complete novice to learn the basics? i have unlimited supply of the materials below to get practicing with from work! 18mm Plywood 4x4 timber 3x3 timber 4x2 timber
