These tutorials are a combination of carving and anatomy. I think they’re quite good to help with the success of these type of carvings. Thanks Matt

Cheers Linda, yeah it's funny how we all own a face but are sometimes unfamiliar with its anatomy. Have a great day 🙂

Hi Matt, your eyes 👀 look great mine just look OK like eyes. When you are using the diamond burr and the 2mm burr is the speed high 25 - 30,000 rpm or lower 15 - 20,000 rpm. I usually spend a lot of time on the eyes and the more I do the worse they get. And if the eyes are the soul to your wood spirit mine have no soul.

I think eyes are hard to do but one day it clicks and you are away. Speed of the dremel is hard to say exactly if you doing some thing really delicate in soft wood slow it down as you have more control.

I've heard that eyes are a pain in the neck. I have a much lower opinion! Maybe, when you are explaining the 'flat plane' of the eyes, if you use one of your skull carvings to show the flat plane of the eye sockets it might help in understanding what you mean? Or maybe not, just a thought. The smoothing and finishing with the flat headed burrs is a great idea. Thanks!

Yes, it is definitely a good idea to use a skull. Will do that next time. Cheers for that. 🙂

Hi Matt, I just want you to know that I’m suffering from manic depressive disorder…treatment resistant. I came upon your tutorials, the detailed ones, and I remembered I used to want to do this, it gave me some hope. I want to start with the Indian woman spirit. What are the minimum burrs I need to start ? Thanks for any guidance.

Sorry to hear what you are going through. Kutzalls are great. Go for the extreme flame and fine taper burr first. If you watch this video it explains the burrs I use kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jLdgnr1lnd3ahWw.htmlsi=OYbbPjE-tLoJjeIT

Hi Matt, did a little shopping and I could use some clarification. For FLAME BURR😅 1/2”x1” or 1/4”x1/2”, fine, coarse, very coarse, original COATING or extreme coating? On TAPER BURR: head 1/4”x1/2” or 1/8”x7/8”. Then the same questions as above: fine, coarse, very coarse, COATING: original, extreme. I so appreciate your help!

We call it Macrocarpa here in New Zealand. It is originally from Southern California. Yes your right it is quite soft, I don't think it is as soft as basswood. Cheers for watching 👍
