This was done by trial and error and in 2010 I was not able to find any information from Thule on how to pack it. To protect the fork and rear dropouts I used the plastic that is used when they ship bikes to a bike shop. Depending on the size of your bike you may need to move the fork. I didn't want to move it because of the extra stress and strain on the cables and feel like it's better to not spin the fork a 180. I never saw the Thule provided instruction but this method worked for me every time with zero damage

while the packing method is similar to thule's in many respects, yours appears to do a better job protecting the derailleur hanger.

Thanks, I fly with my bike and use a Aerus Biospeed Bicycle Travel Case (HumblePower ~$300). I very often fly the bike for just the oversize fee , vs. the crazy bike fee.

i know this is an older upload, but it is quite instructive. But I have some q's....I note that the way you pack the case is quite different to the instructions provided by thule. Was this by trial and error (ie did you have any damage when following their recommendations? Also, i noticed that you did not turn your fork--did you use anything to protect the fork from compression forces? (same q re the rear dropouts)...thanks

If you go to the trouble of removing your rear derailleur, you should also use front and rear hub protectors on your frame.

will this accommodate a 29' bike?
@charlesfnagel10 жыл бұрын
what are the dimensions of this box?
@skioggi10 жыл бұрын
47" x 30½" x 10½" (outer), 45" x 28½" x 10" (inner) are the dimensions I am not sure about 29er capatability
@jimmonkman44086 жыл бұрын
skioggi It is not 29er capable. I bought mine from a guy who has switched from road to 29er for his travels and could not use it for his current preferred bike (the 29er).
