At this point in my life, I’ve spent more than 1 year traveling across Muslim-majority countries. And many of them (like Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Syria, Indonesia) are my favorite nations in the world!
Growing up as a Jew in the USA, I was told by many that Muslims are bad people… but that can’t be farther away from the truth! There is a huge misconception about Muslims. They are some of the most respectful, hospitable, and friendly souls on the planet, and I learned this from experience.
As I reflect here in Nouakchott, Mauritania on the last day of 8 months on the road, I wanted to share some of my honest thoughts about Islam.

I've fell in love with Muslims and Islam in recent years. Growing up in Eastern Europe I had a lot of prejudice towards Islam and Muslims, but after travelling across many Muslim-majority countries, meeting Muslims and making friends, I can confirm: Muslims are the most hospitable, most kind and most peace-loving people I have EVER met! I'm fortunate enough to have made friends from all major religions and backgrounds, but there will always be a special place for Muslims! Never listen to racists and trolls who will try to create hate, we don't need that! Salaam, we are all brothers and sisters! ❤️🙏🏽

Thank you so much, Drew. I have been A Christian pastor for over 45 years and it grieves me how so many people judge other people and their beliefs without knowing and understanding them. We can honor one another without abandoning our deepest conviction tions. We can love each other without compromising our faith. In fact, unless we do, we reproach our faith. You are a breath of fresh air, Brother.

I’ve been to many Islamic countries and the hospitality has always been great! Sudan was an amazing adventure for me mostly because it was so cool experiencing their culture and hospitality. I think Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan were my 2 top favourite Islamic countries that I’ve ever been to though

@@logiic8835 the sections of Jews are determined by how religious you are. People are born Jewish, but they decide how strict they are, some Jews are not religious at all (like Drew, as he told us) and so they act just like everyone else. Then there are Jews that keep some of the festivals but not properly like just eating cheesecake on Shavout (a Jewish festival), whereas some Jews (like myself) will not do any kind of manual labor at all and not touch my phone, as well as eating cheesecake on Shavout. Today, the largest Jewish religious movements are Orthodox Judaism (Haredi Judaism and Modern Orthodox Judaism), Conservative Judaism, and Reform Judaism. Major sources of difference between these groups are their approaches to Jewish law, the authority of the Rabbinic tradition, and the significance of the State of Israel. This is Wikipedia, because im not very good at explaining, but despite all of this we are all Jews and at the end of the day this kind of thing doesn't really matter.

@@yonit hm that's unfortunate really... I myself am Muslim, yes we have the 2 major sects of Sunni and Shia, but in Islam we don't divide ourselves depending on how religiously committed we are. We have guidelines from Allah and His messenger messenger we ought to follow, this means no more and no less. That's why when we get asked about our faith, we only say that we're Muslim.

I have traveled in several Muslim countries as an older woman on my own and agree with you completely. Every religion teaches love and kindness I think but also, unfortunately, every religion has its extremists who only want blind obedience instead of people being able to think for themselves and live in peace.

This brings tears to my eyes ❤️ After I lived in Morocco, Turkey, Malaysia, and (soon) Somaliland with my husband I absolutely fell in love with Islam and Muslim people. Never have I experienced so much love, care, and kindness from an entire group of people. I converted to Islam this year Alhamdullilah 🙏🏼. Really really enjoyed this! Drew's videos show the beauty and oneness of humanity. I have never traveled to a Muslim country, however I have met many Muslims here in California, from all over the world, and some have become my close friends. All of them have been so kind, friendly, and hospitable towards me. My impression of Islam is not based on stereotypes of any kind, but on my own personal experience and interactions with wonderful Muslims from all over the world.

Shia Islam is Truth. Brother I invite you to learn about Religion of Prophet Muhammad and his Successor Hazrat Ali. The religion of Islam is accumulation of teaching of all the Holy Prophets who came before Prophet Muhammad such as Prophet Jesus , Prophet Abraham and Prophet Solomon.

@@bigDaddy-lx9sn Christianity also teaches about all the prophets before Jesus, since Jesus was a son of God and part of the holy trinity, so essentially he was God as well. You may not agree to Jesus being God himself and his son, but our religions are based on the same people, starting from Abraham.

Indonesian Muslim here. Drew is right, every points Drew pointed out ARE actually regulated in Islam, including taking care of your guests and families, and no, it never mentioned about what race or religion your guests and families are from. Edited: I have a Jewish aunt, a Jewish godfather, and half of my extended family are Christians. And we get along just fine and always have great times together.

@@PoldarkGodzilla This was a taxation fee payed by non Muslim inhabitants of in a Islamic country. This is paid ANNUALLY. Many people were exempted from paying Jizya such women of any religion, mentally unstable people monks kids (obviously) elders disabled men who joined the Muslim army people who secluded themselves from society and of course people who passed by such as holidays or business. Fit men who worked would have to pay a few dirhams (currency used then) based on their statuses as in Islam they are the breadwinners but women can work but are only recognised a financial support to the man if she works, her money is hers. Now why did they pay, well they are in a country that is providing them with facilities and protection, Jizya was payed to fund these things, just like in today’s society we pay taxes to the government also. It is important that I also add that Muslim in the Islamic land payed their own form of “Taxes” called Zakat (1 of 5 pillars in Islam). There is many categories of Zakat not just 2.5% given to poor annually is not as the only category. Jizya for the non Muslims Zakat for the Muslims as the also benefited from the bounties of the Islamic country despite being Muslim. Part of the money collected will of course be used for the running of the country but to the really poor so they don’t beg on the street, but the elderly also. I hope you understand.

I am a musilm American-born Pakistani and I always hated seeing the hatred to Muslims. Everything said in this video is very true and you will see this from Morrocco to Indonesia to Kazakhstan. I have had so much friends who are Christian, Hindu and atheists, and they have never gave predejuce because I was Muslim. Love my brothers and sisters, Muslim and non-Muslim.☪️🕋🕌

As a Jewish young adult from Phoenix, Arizona, I am greatly saddened by how much hatred created by others for being different blinds us and causes us to forget that we’re all human beings. The world is meant to be full of diversity in religions, cultures, and other aspects of life. Hatred has no place in this world. I know people from other places even though I haven’t been able to travel outside the USA since I am hard at work trying to update my passport. But I must say that I am so glad that I have been introduced to your channel, Drew. But I have a question, what do Muslims do when they have children or family members that are not able to sit on the floor to eat with everyone? I ask this because I have cerebral palsy and I know that no matter what religion you follow there has to be some ways to adapt traditions to help people with disabilities participate. That’s something I can get concerned about when it comes to traveling, not being able to take part in certain customs and traditions because of having physical disabilities.

Hi, shalom/assalamu alaikum. I'm Muslim, I live in a non Muslim majority country so we aren't used to sitting on the floor to eat even though that's the accepted manner. But for some religious recitals we lay mats and sit on the floor, the elderly would usually sit on chairs . So yeah it's OK when it comes to meals too. Nothing should be made difficult in religion. Food is traditionally eaten in sawans or in large plates so people sit around it and eat with their hands. But yes if u are unable to, u can grab a plate and sit on a chair and eat.

Thank you for making this video! My first impression of Islam was in Morocco when I was a teenager, and I went on to study Arabic and spend years living and working in Muslim-majority countries. While Muslims are humans, and therefore not perfect, I find so many wonderful things about Muslims, like you pointed out in the video. Unfortunately, Islam is so misunderstood in the world these days. I hope your channel, and this video, can really help people have a balanced idea about the people who practice Islam.

I have not been to many Islamic countries yet (Indonesia and Bosnia & Herzegovina are the only ones so far), but I will say that Muslims (from my own experience) have been some of the friendliest and most hospitable people I have ever met. They always are very welcoming and they really go out of their way to help! More people need to see videos like this one!

As someone who spent a couple of years in the Singapore Armed Forces, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside Muslims, and I’ve been able to get along well with most of them. To me, they’re just like anyone else - they just want to live out peaceful lives, and they do share common dreams/wishes/goals with their Christian, Sikh, Hindu, Taoist, and Buddhist counterparts, no matter how banal or extraordinary. Fun fact: I spent two years of middle school in the UK, and two of my classmates were, as you can guess, an Israeli girl and a Saudi Arabian girl, and I distinctly remember them getting along fine. So yes, Jews and Muslims can coexist together in peace.

Singapore is a multicutural country so it is easier to have friends from different religion, including muslim. I was in Singapore for 1 year only in an exchange programme with Yale-NUS and already l have two very good friends who are Malay/muslim. We still keep in touch.

Growing up in Singapore, I went to a Catholic primary school, and there were not only Muslim students, but Muslim teachers among the staff too. My impression of the teachers was that they were definitely quite bubbly and joyful, and I thought they were more approachable than most of the Chinese teachers at the school (note: I am of Chinese ethnicity). Even today, I still hear and read about the countless multi-religious friendships that are constantly forming and getting stronger, and I can honestly say that's one of the things I'm proud about my Singaporean heritage. Even in Australia, there have been quite a few positive stories involving Muslims. In fact, I was quite stoked about my favourite footy team (St Kilda Saints) having a Muslim player who was known for his attacking prowess, and I remember being impressed by a Muslim contestant in MasterChef Australia who willingly rolled her sleeves up, put on some gloves, and cooked a decent pork dish that got the judges' approval despite not being able to taste it herself (the implication being that she must have done countless test-cooks off-camera with her Caucasian friends giving her feedback). Of course there will always be some bad eggs, but my philosophy in life is to judge a person by their actions and not by their labels. It's why I feel pity for those who allow themselves to make judgemental blanket statements without stepping out from their safe bubbles. While I don't know Drew personally, I really do appreciate what he's trying to do with his videos, given that he's admitted to growing out of his negative views just by being worldly. To my Muslim friends here, please share your positive (be it funny or heartwarming) experiences people of different (or no) faiths. Likewise to my non-Muslim friends, please do the same in regards to interacting with Muslims. It's about time we brought about the light of positivity back to this crazy world!

I am American Jewish and the way I look at it is the Israeli Palestinian conflict is a conflict of nationalities not religions. That being said the occupation must end and neither side should be able to dominate the other but rather live in peace and equality.
