The part with the german switching sides refers to Arminius, a germanic tribesman taken as an hostage by the Romans and raised into being a roman general. He eventually led three roman legions in an ambush at the battle of Teutoburg Forest. He then took the leadership of a Germanic confederation against Rome

If Arminius hadnt given into to his barbarian nature then Rome could have conquered Germania thus shortening their border making it more defensible and leading to a Europe that fully civilises centuries earlier and possibly even more united so yeah all of Europe's woes can be blamed on Arminius

I'm surprised someone has to explain this at this late date, but Okay. The bit at 4:30 where the U.S. ball keeps referring to Ukraine as "Lithuania" is a running joke: 9 times out of 10 the U.S. ball calls other countries' balls (except for Russia, China, UK, Japan, Germany, France) by the wrong name. "We just knew it was somewhere on the Continent and didn't give a tosh."

As a Polish person, I had those exact same WW2 flashbacks at the beginning of the invasion, but I calmed down after like two to three days when the Ukrainians were defending themselves very well

We just love Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Moldova, Turkey and Georgia. This is literally a part of Russia that has never been separate, imagine that the state of California separates in the USA and it turns out that not Americans live there, but Californians as a separate nation with a separate language that was invented on the basis of English, that's the same thing.

@@fenicz6306 Ukraine was once it's own country. F.e. Kievan Rus, which technically was Ukraine (and belarus). It just got swallowed by Polish-lithuanian commonwealth, then Russia, and soviet union, but it fought for independence all of the time. Even kazakhs in the 17th century, and probably even earlier fought for freedom. It wasn't always Russia either. If you count it this way, it also belonged to Poland, Lithuania and Belarus. And maybe a few others. Very long time ago doesn't mean never. And no one is complaining about the USA, though it really never was a seperate country. And ukrainian langage isn't made on the basis of russian. Russians weren't really slavs. If some language came from the other one, it would be russian from ukrainian, but probably russian and ukrainian from proto-slavic. These are ssperate languages, I guess they simply evolved in the similar way because ukraine was a part of russia for 200years. Oh, I almost forgot. Russia oficially accepted Ukrainian borders. They are now fighting over something they agreed on. Your example with calofornia is not valid in any way, it is not the same. And please don't take this as an attack on Russia from my side. I really like Russia, and, in fact, am learning russian. I am just stating that Ukrane has a right to live.

The German legionnaire-ball was a reference to the Cherusci chieftain Arminius, who, as a child, was brought to Rome as a hostage. He climbed the ranks of the roman legion and was send back to his homelands, to pacify his people, but instead conspired with them. He counseled the Roman general Publius Quinctilius Varus to march his three legions through dense woodland, creating the opportunity for the Cherusci to eradicate the whole of the three legions in an ambush. This was the reason for Emperor Augustus occasionally moaning "Quintili Vare, legiones redde!" (transl. Quinctillius Varus, give me back my legions!)

Also the German army is famous for their lack of functional weapons, for example they once bought 7 new planes and only one was usable. Supplying weapons isnt that easy if your army doesnt have any.
