Dricus has been my pick for a long time now, and I think he'll defend this belt for years. Anything that has been thrown at him he has won and however they talk about him, how they repeat Adesanya's narrative about him fighting ugly (because he fights so beautifully) it does not matter. It's the results and Dricus timing and IQ is outstanding.

That word is not even a word used in South Africa

@@ffshooter9929 He made the comments because it was true.. He is the first champion taking the belt to Africa and residing in Africa. Dricus giving good interview again. He's so forthcoming about being a fighter, mindset, the fun sides, the bad, fear and ego. Excellent interview. Our man here, just that solid knowledge of the sport, what's going on, who the players are, look at the fantastic questions and propositions he put forward and in turn, giving someone like Dricus, who is chatty and open, plenty to work with. Well done. I said it around November last year, him and Jiri remind me of each other a fair bit - something very straight forward and honest about why they fight, what they love about it, even their approach... and I think DDP's words about the pre fight fear, nerves, and what he didn't say, what it is to take risks, risk everything - the work, the words, the victory - in front of the world. Theys how their drive nakedly, no playing down, no hiding, no mockery. Though Jiri can take note of balance. I think Jiri risks going down the rabbit hole of masochism as proof of mental strength. As MMA fighters, probably the hardest sport on the body from the nature of the cross trainging - the hands that get damaged from striking have to still grapple and grip and hold, toes always copping it, knees and shoulders having to take the blunt force trauma of striking but then have to have the muscles for lifting. (Wrestlers having nowhere to go for a pro fighting career, have done well in MMA. Poatan has shown a blueprint for a different way. Kickboxing, so his body not taking that harsh cross training for years, becoming a profoundly good striker, hands, feet, knees, then learning enough defensive grappling that most of your fights are on the feet. Young men take note.) The need to look after themselves, phsyically, is paramount. Dricus standing firm on physical maintenance as paramount is excellent. It's a pity his start as champion has been so bogged down with the toxic components of UFC fandom. Whining, damaged jerks wanting the civillians to carry water for them bullying their rivals. And when they lie about what has gone down... it's a lack of integrity, so how nice they are as people? When people show you who they are... believe them. He's an exciting champion because everyone watches him and sees him as beatable. They see those gaps and are certain they can exploit them. And sheer grit or upping the intellectual effort shows otherwise. We as fans see the risks and how it opens him up to being tagged... that adds to the excitement. Beating Rob... yep, Rob was proving to be technically so fine, really fast... Dricus just stopped and changed it. And gave no hint of what he was going to do. It makes for a great fighter to watch. I love storyline in a fight. Stay strong, Dricus, watch those counters and a bit of ragdolling would be fun, you know, for those who believe in you.
