Hello everyone! This week I sang Drift Away from the Steven Universe Movie!
Something about this song hit so hard man, I was not emotionally prepared for it. Sometimes it's fun to go into a song without having a ton of background knowledge on what its from/about. Obviously, having enough information to understand the context of what's going on is important but most songs provide that for you. I like testing out my chops like this, it keeps me on my toes. I don't do this super often but I always seem to luck out with Steven songs (mostly because I’m not a super avid watcher of the show). I haven’t watched the movie yet because I wanted to sing a few songs first but booOOY I was not expecting to have such an emotional response. I also wasn’t expecting such an emotionally raw song either.
As much as I love singing in funny voices, it felt right to sing this more so as myself. I think a lot of people can relate with this song and taking away the silly voice felt a bit more real to me. I hope I’ve managed to convey the same emotional response I felt the first time listening.
Change is finished and will be uploaded as a bonus video in the next few days! Now I’m going to settle in with my best buds and finally watch the movie!

Pink leaving Spinel isn't what angers me, it's the fact that she never came back. Even after her change of heart she never thought about bringing Spinel to Earth as Rose Quartz so she can live a happy life. She just threw her aside and forgot about her, like an old toy.

don't think so bud. Spinel was given to pink when her original Pearl was taken and replaced with our pearl. Spinel was made to entertain pink but when pink had pink pearl it was pink entertaining her in some aspects. plus I feel like pink and spinel's relationship was one sided while pearl and pink really had a connection.

Spinel was definitely a character I related to the most. She just wanted to be loved, and to give her love to pink diamond and she just left her like she was nothing. As someone who's been in a situation like that it hurts more than anything in the world...

@kphank Pink treated Spinel like she did because up to that point that was the only contact she ever got, she was abused by the diamonds and had pink pearl, the only gem who was her friend before Spindel and Pearl, taken away which probably thought her to not attach herself as much to others because they can easily be taken from her. While she learnt otherwise on earth, Pink didn't have any positive relationships at the point when she abandoned Spindel and probably saw it as better of for Spindel to be isolate and ignorant, but safe from the Diamonds, rather than bringing her with her and getting her shattered or captured and shattered by the diamonds. Pink at this point didn't have the knowledge to realise what she did to Spindel was wrong.

@@shonascott5499 Rebecca Sugar said Pink "grew out of Spinel" and by the point she got her colony she only found Spinel annoying. Pink deliberately left her behind to do grown up things and never once thought of the consequences when she told Spinel to stay put.

All this comments are right, I don't know why people are hating Pink, yeah I know that she left Spinel in the garden but even spinel said it "Pink wanted a colony more than anything" if Pink really didn't care about the colony she would've took Spinel with her. Even if she decided to take Spinel with her probably the diamond would've tell Pink to get rid of her because she was to childish to be in a colony. About Pink Pearl I think Pink didn't decided that it was White we really don't know to much about the relationship of Pink and P. Pearl so idk why are people just saying that pink is the real antagonist of the story.

Pink is a unique character. We know characters that start off bad. I’ll use Snape as an example. He started off as pure evil and we gradually learn of his past and what his motives are that make him slightly less terrible. Pink started off as a mysterious perfect figure but we gradually see her backstory and how bad she started off. She’s a reverse redemption for us. Even now, she caused such pain in her wake

I don't think I really understood the impact of Pink's action, not until my ex-stepmom was revealed to be a narcissist that never cared about our family, and dumped me like it was nothing. I hurts so badly sometimes and I can connect so much more with Spinel. To anyone who's been through this, especially at a young age, I'm so sorry. You deserve so much more and people who truly love you. You are never nothing ❤

You're cover makes me cry everytime, and that's okay! You're so right, not doing a sillier voice for this really captured the pure emotional devastation, abandonment, and cognitive dissonance in a way a character that sounds less real couldn't do as well. Somehow bringing an even more somber tone to the song, and I could hear the switches from a perspective of the naive girl spinel was, to the the one that knows what hapened and is filled with contempt and sadness, spinel bounces between these throughout the song

That Hasan I think they were referencing the song other friends because in this song Spinel explains the “game” Pink Diamond told her to play. She told Spinel to stay in the garden, in the exact spot she was standing & to wait for her return without moving in the slightest bit. Spinel, being the loyal gem she is, took this game/task very seriously & did as she was told, she stayed still for 6000 years (I believe), “happily waiting” for PD‘s return! In other friends, Spinel says “I‘m the loser of the game you didn’t know you were playing” because Pink Diamond left her with this so called game and completely forgot about her and didn’t tell anyone about her either. That’s the connection between these two songs: a cruel trick disguised as a game, fashioned by Pink Diamond to manipulate Spinel into leaving her alone & at the same time assuring Spinel wouldn’t go anywhere in case Pink Diamond felt like being around her again.
