7 years ago I furnished my woodworking workshop with shiny new British made machines thinking they would last me until the grave. I now cry at how bad they are. The drill press specifically is virtually unusable. I should have taken my time renovating older machines originally. A great result with this drill. If the Land Rover renovation is half as good as this it will be twice as good as the old Land Rover outside my house!

My work doesn't come close to your detail and thoroughness, but my job is to refurbish vandalized (public) equipment to working, safe, near-new condition, minimizing waste. Your closing statement reflects my every day work, and you show this in every video. This is why I like your channel. Would you make one more 10 minutes video of polishing your knob (all three)? :smiley face light skin tone:

I cant believe it, I did not think that one man on his own could do such a rebuild of Great British Engineering, fantastic, could you come and live hear, and show us how its done. I think if more people had your patience and skills, we would not need China. Absolutely great videos, it goes far beyond well done. Colin UK.

Much respect for saving another timeless machine. Sad how equipment made as much as 100 + years ago can last indefinitely but with all of our new technology, we can consider ourselves fortunate if new machines survive their warranty period. Cheers

An incredible job! The drill looks new, you're a perfectionist. I especially loved the paint finish, I am restoring an old drill milling machine built in cast iron and thanks to your videos I am learning a lot. Thank you very much Geoffrey!

I have just today completed a restoration of an Atlas 10F Lathe, my second. Earlier this Spring I finished a year long Atlas Drill Press restoration and a 3 Year Long Knee Mill restoration. I love restoring machinery, but as meticulous as I am, polishing all the chrome, black oxide all the hardware and striping/painting every every piece, I have found that there is always someone more meticulous, and who does a better job. My hat is off to you sir, well done, and thanks for the ride. Cheers.

Haha, you give me too much credit. I can point the camera only at the good bits! Email me pictures of your machines, they sound cool.

Brilliant job Mr. Croker. But let's be honest here. You have a time machine in the back room and just simply went back in time and bought a new machine and brought it back! Great job!

Being a tattoo artist and also a bass guitar luthier in the past, working with metal never happened to me (until now) I got an Elliot 2G pillar drill from a free cycle website, I went to collect pallets, but this guy saw how I was looking at his drill. Asking 10,000 questions. I just bonded with the machine instantly, and he gave it to me, although it was working, I knew that I would have to service it and once I saw the latest paint job was cracking then I'm having to fully restore it. Not sure what year this guys drill is but it's different to mine, the base and table on mine seem more substantial, certainly feel it, also mine has a part- plastic cog at the back of the gearbox, it's dated 1951 and has a 3 phase motor built by hoover in Scotland. I've completed disassembly now (£200) in parts broken by me, obviously a couple of custom fabricated replica parts had to be machined on a lathe. With no lathe to speak of personally, no knowledge, virtually no information...(never even heard of a "gear pulley") I'm currently stripping, respraying all of the cast parts (not trying to turn it into a brand new drill)... Even if I could it defeats its purpose to me, I want Elliot to look like the 70 Yr old guy that he is. I'm just happy to be a part of his history, and I intend to use him, see what he can do. This guy's video diary is invaluable to me, I couldn't do it without these videos, as reference and he clearly knows what he's doing. So thanks for putting up such a comprehensive and thorough education for me, and the other freaks digging vintage industrial machinery... 👍👍💪🙏

Thank you Geoff, As a new owner of a Progress No 2, I am in awe at the attention to detail & work you have lavished into this great machine. After watching, I now know, given my limited skill set, that I am going to have to settle, with a deep clean and buff, but know where to go to should we require any more information upon it. Loved every video (should be making things with wood) Better get on !!

Your narration circa 16:00 describes our true gods. This is what we should be worshiping and giving respect to. I'm in the US, where every other sentence is "I don't want to get technical". My question is WHY NOT? Where do they think all their laborsaving equipment came from? Their phones, TVs, air conditioning, refrigeration, automobiles, etc. Some magic man in the sky? It's quite disgusting, really. You have the right idea. Keep up the good work.

Heroic effort Sir. You must glean immense satisfaction every time you look at the renewed drill press and/or use it, satisfaction levels most human beings never attain in their lifetimes. I will leave you with a quote from Louis Nizer, which I think apt, "A man who works with his hands is a laborer; a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist. " Thank you for you videos.

p.s. those countersunk Philips head screws on the switch cover have got to go for countersunk slotted screws, probably unobtanium in metric . ;)

Great channel Geoff, please keep the projects coming. I like the accuracy, the attention to detail, the care to restore properly and the eventual use of these machines for their original purpose. Computers are great but machines are fantastic; for everyone out there lets not forget our engineering heritage and the machines that made that possible.
