Dr. Hansen, I kicked my diet soda and sugar addiction in October of this year. Yes, I know it is a little late when I will be 69 years old later this month. But I am already seeing significant effects on my skins appearance, and a dramatic decline in formerly everyday events, sugar crashes. Over the last 3.6 years I have lost 50 pounds ,and dropped my blood pressure down to 111 over 85. My body is now virtually identical to the way it looked when I was between 31 and 34 years of age. I now am back to wearing real athletic fit shirts, and I look better than most guys half my age. Call me goal driven like yourself Dr. Hansen. Thank you so much for all the sage advice you have offered to all of us over the last two years, Bravo. Your Smoothies are next up!!!

@ Materialworld4 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Great stuff! At 65 years, last month I weighed in at 129 lbs in the Dr office, height 5'7". In college my weight was 10 lbs. less but between College days and working nights, I was out of my apartment 17 hrs/day. Now I'm retired and feelin' good about it. Congrats!!!

Better late than never my friend. I just turned 67 and after kicking several deadly habits in the last 13+ years I'm now working on my diet... and it's a challenge. But I'll do it just like the others, one day at a time and just keep on plugging. Good luck on yours too.

I really enjoy your nutrition videos! I've been making smoothies for breakfast for a few years now, and I find I do feel healthier. Some of my recipes (I bought a smoothie book when I first got started) have honey in them, but I don't like the taste, so I leave it out and use bananas and dates instead. I've gotten into adding a tablespoon of ground flaxseed to my smoothies pretty consistently. I also eat a lot of salad. By "a lot" I mean about a pound or two of raw veggies, and I like to switch it up. When I'm running low on salad stuff, I like to use a random vegetable generator on the internet to help make my grocery list. It's gotten me trying some things I normally wouldn't have thought of, like bitter melon and chayote.

A week or so back I'd have been skeptical about ths but I did stumble across a video of yours the other day where you discuss cholesterol (in that high LDL is not necessarily a bad thing unless your LDL type b is high), omega 6 to omega 3 ratios, triglicerides to HDL ratios, insulin resistance, causes of blood vessel inflammation etc. That one somewhat unconventional 15 minute or so video confirmed all the research I'd done to date on metabolic health (on and off for a few years). You clearly know your stuff so I'll give this go for sure!

Making smoothing is really a fun thing to do.. You cannn add things like broccoli, carrots, or kale. Also depending on the season you can add those seasonal fruits like honeydew, cantaloupe, kiwi, persimmon or cherries (without the pit please) I definitely recommend leaving watermelon out😅it does something weird when you blend it And if you want to thicken your smoothy freeze the bananas or some of the berries Hope these help💗💕

Great advice on the super smoothies! I use a similar strategy but instead of smoothies I eat steel cut oats with chia seeds, hemp seeds, frzn strawberries, frzn blueberries, cinnamon, ginger, and walnuts every morning. All ingredients are organic and bought in bulk so they are relatively inexpensive. They fuel my morning workouts and keep me satiated until lunch. I also employ time restricted eating with a 11/13 schedule. Eat breakfast at 7am and no more food after 6pm. I'd like to get down to a 10/14 but for now this is working well for my gut health and overall energy levels.

Dr. Hansen, I have enjoyed listening to your super smoothie videos. I couldn't agree more about their health benefits and how much better the person can feel in various ways. Thought I mentioned two superfoods that you might like to research and include in your smoothies. And that is Chlorella A and Spirulina. They both have a high content of chlorophyll and vital nutrients. Also Chlorella (type A) is very good for getting rid of heavy metals in your body and cleansing ~ Enjoy ☺️ and thank you for your knowledgeable videos! 🤗

Smoothies are terrific and after hot water and freshly squeezed lemon juice on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning I'll do a banana smoothie. My body craves bananas when I eat them, maybe the potassium but the next day it's like - where's my banana?! I whip it in the blender and at night it's so satisfying. The best on a hot summer day. Yes, nuts, chia seeds, probiotic yogurt (the only thing I could take when I had Peritonitis), and honey, depending. Don't forget the frozen mixed berries, non GMO. They're terrific! Before smoothies were milkshakes but we put the fresh fruit in them with an egg and wheat germ. So, yeah. My body is totally down with the homemade smoothie❣

If you do drink smoothies DO NOT overlook the very negative factor of the fruit fructose you are drinking . Make the smoothie your first meal and DO NOT add any more sweetener than needed to make it palatable. (fructose effect on insulin resistance is in another Dr Hansen video)
@ScarlettDuchess
@ScarlettDuchess Жыл бұрын
Fruit does not cause insulin resistance. I reversed my severe insulin resistance switching from refined sugar to fruit. The fructose in fruit is mostly metabolised in the intestines. The problem is when too much fructose spills over into the liver in high doses.
@lizhall2961
@lizhall2961 Жыл бұрын
It is high fructose corn syrup and refined fructose that are health hazards, and overconsumption of fruit juice. The fructose packaged with fiber in a whole fruit is fine. There are a lot of scientific studies validating the health benefits of whole fruits.
@TheExostan
@TheExostan Жыл бұрын
fructose does not increase blood sugar levels as it can be absorbed by the intestines passively only when sugar is needed while there is no limit to glucose intake over the intestines thus resulting in blood sugar peaks. basic biochemistry knowledge.

Hi! Doctor Mike Henson.. Greetings from San Antonio, Texas. We live in dangerous times of food places and choices we have. In our neck of the woods, we find too many Mexican food & Fast food. I have cut out from eating Mexican and fast food before covid and I have lost weight but not enough as I reach my 40's with hypothyroidism. Daily I make better choices to eat. If I don't make my meals, I chose a place that make fresh food but not many choices. I love fruit and vegetables as they make feel lighter. I don't have temptation on sugar cravings, just cheese and bread. I will be trying the smoothies you create and implement them for me. I LOVE ALL your funny videos, you motivate me to do better for my self and lift me up to exercise. I struggle with daily body pain from Bursitis on my hips and shoulders. I also struggle with Fibromyalgia body pain all over. So at times I'm not encouraged to excercise. I miss my days of track and cross country when I could run and not be tired. I am going to try the Super smoothie and see on how it helps me. I may need to try the plantain banana that contain less starch or sugar. Keep us the VIDEOS as they help us ALL going and to better our lives with your inspiration. THANK YOU!!

You think your grocery store visits are crazy expensive now?... try living like this guy. And like every thing else in this health space, this stuff works for you... until it doesn't. They are just protocols. Like Keto, Carnivore, Paleo, Vegan, ect... Your body will adapt and the initial benefits lessen over time. Try these things for 30, 60, 90 days as a reset, then change things up.

About a year ago I was working to 1gm /lb LBM of protein per day. Tried 4 meals, but late protein doesn't let me sleep, so, as part of this exercise, I migrated to a morning "eggnog" right after the gym. Ingredients: 3 raw eggs, 1g each of tumeric and cinnamon, about .1g pepper to activate tumeric, 5g creatine Monohydrate,15g flaxseed meal , 6g psyllium husk powder, 5oz yesterday's cold coffee and 30g Allmax Isoflex (27g protein). TTL Protein 47.9g, 2.7 NetC, 13g Fiber, 19.5gF, 423Kc. . TTL protein for the day comes to about 160 g. I'm 67 so I'm working the high end of the protein scale, (per Dr. Don Layman U il, and Dr. Stu Phillips, McGill U)

I started doing a smoothie every day a few months ago. I am actually going to go back to a full breakfast. Here is what happened: My smoothies consist of strawberry, blueberry, blackberry, peaches, banana, kale, Avocado, pineapple, raspberry, hemp hearts, chia seeds, and a 50/50 mix of pomegranate juice with coconut water for the base. For the first couple months, I felt great. I didn't get hungry again until dinner time. So I was having this massive smoothie, and one large meal a day. I lost 10+lbs of fat (I'm already a pretty lean male). Over the past month, it has been holding me over less and less every day. Now I'm starving by about 1PM, and looking for something to eat in the pantry. Plus I started getting a sharp pain in my side, which doesn't seem to show up when I have a full meal at breakfast. I am not sure what happened. Also, with inflation, the cost of these smoothies have gone up dramatically. Starting this weekend, I am going to go back to my old breakfast situation, prior to the smoothies. I did a 4 egg omlette with spinach, bell pepper, onion, and turkey bacon. It was incredibly filling. We'll see if I feel any better, again.

I like your videos. Are you familiar with the "Fit for Life" diet? Around since the 1970s, Marilyn Diamond and her husband. I don't recall exactly. They wanted you to eat fruit and nothing but fruit in the morning. in the original permutation of the diet. I lost 20 lbs in a month when I first went on the diet. Anyway, mostly I wanted to tip you off to another ingredient for your super smoothies: Amla powder (from India). It's the dried and ground Indian gooseberry (and sort of supposedly cures everything, more or less). There are a couple of other plant based 'medicinal' powders you can also find in an Indian grocery store. Luckily we have a very good here in Ventura, CA.

To many people, these overtax our immune system and cause MORE INFLAMMATION not the reverse. You purport this information like your experience will be the experience everyone has, which is untrue.

Crazy as it sounds, I got my energy back by transitioning from vegetarian (not vegan) to carnivore. I am on of those people for whom fiber constipates me BIG TIME.

Fiber is the indigestible part of the plant, so of course it constipates you. We shouldn't be consuming it.

I wish I eat 30gm of fiber daily! I eat a lot of fruit and few veggies, whole wheat bread, like baking acorn squash. Mushroom jerky, dehydrated pumpkin chips, crunchsters mung beans, and biena baked chickpeas are few new and tasty discoveries for me - surprisingly delicious! 😋 ( I have a terrible working schedule - 12hrs night shifts in the ED, 7on 7off and during that time I try to eat healthy snacks but it's mostly packaged foods). I miss making smoothies. I'll try to incorporate more in my diet. I need to boost my immune system now that the cold weather is coming and we'll see many sick people in the ED. Thanks for the useful advice and ideas!😍

Maybe he should watch himself in his videos at the beginning of pandemic. He looked much healthier. More balanced food, less super food.

Dr. Mike Hansen; very interesting video. I have a question: After consuming lots of fiber for a long time -- my gastroenterologist has cut them out almost completely due to diverticulitis and IBD. What and which fiber should I take and which should I stay away? Thank you..

Turning anything healtht into a refined powder or liquid is processing. Even sugar is healthy in its raw unprocessed form. Surely much better to add these superfood ingredients to a whole fibre form such as oatmeal with oatbran and eat rather than drink as smoothie

Perfect example of establishing brand authority first. I decided you were a truth teller during the Big P. Now I trust you not to say it changed your life if it didn't. Just bought your recipes. Also. If you did all the work on asking about favorite flavors, etc Great job. Of course I couldn't stop at 1 or 2 flavors!! 😂

Would organic cashew 1/2 & 1/2 cream count? I make my own for my coffee( trying to get off dairy). Does it count as soluble or insoluble?
