I cannot drink for medical reasons. I never drank much but missed a good beer with pizza. I found a "near beer" called "Old Milwaukee" and it tastes just like real beer. I have given it to many people and they were shocked at how good it tastes and that it does taste like Real Beer. I love your Vlogs. Even though I don't have an Ostomy I find you so interesting and informative. Thank You.

The whole video I was thinking about non-alco beers and then you mentioned it at the end :D I'm from Czech Republic, you know, the country that consumes the most beer per capita in the world, and during the past two years almost every major (and many smaller) brewery has put out their non-alco beer. Some of them are kinda meh, but some of them you couldn't tell it's not a regular beer. And since they are made with the same ingredients as regular beer, they have all the vitamins and minerals. So in a way, non-alco beer is the best ion drink to stay hydrated! :D

I had to give up alcohol a few years ago. I don't have a stoma, but I have colitis (unspecified). Then, not too long ago I was dx'd with liver disease. I just decided my body doesn't want me drinking at all.

Beer has always been a no-go with my Crohn’s! Sooo much bloating 😖 but now that I have an ostomy wine seems to bother me as well 😭 weirdly enough the harder stuff seems to sit best! Just have to HYDRATE like you said! 💜

I have Ulcerative Colitis. I have a colon, but I can say alcohol affects me. Yes I like a glass of wine but I have paid for it if I have too much to drink. I don’t think it’s uncommon for alcohol to affect IBD. I worked with someone who had Crohns and another who also had UC. All of us said alcohol affects us.

Hi! I have IBS-D and eosinophilic esophagitis plus small bowel dysmotility. I do have other chronic illnesses as well. I find that alcohol, as long as I stay hydrated, in general does not bother me. However, I only drink alcohol a few times a year.

I'm in Australia and our legal drinking age is 18, however, growing up with parents born and raised in Italy, I'd be given wine with dinner as a child - mixed with water. I never thought anything of it and my parents would only have a small glass with a meal themselves. I remember once, my neighbour was over at dinner time, she was around my age - I wasn't even 10 yet - because we didn't have anything like soft drink to offer her, I thought it better to give her a little wine and water (plain water being too "boring"). Neither of us thought anything of it, but she just didn't like it (she was from a more traditionally Anglo Saxon family). I've never seen a family member drunk, it wasn't a problem thankfully. Same when I visited Italy, alcohol with a meal is the normal thing. These days, I can't stomach it! Maybe a rare gin and tonic, that's it. Sorry for the ramble, you reminded me of that and the strange things that happen when you're in a home where parents don't really speak the language and culture is different ☺️

No IBD here, but I'm the size of the average 11 year old and probably have emetophobia. I have no idea how much it would take for me to be drunk or hung over, and had no interest in finding out. Plus, from the little bit I have tried, I don't like the taste. Plus, they warn you not to drink on Zoloft, (but some people do it and are totally fine) and it's not worth the risk for me.

I loved wine prior to UC but could not tolerate it during my illness. After my total colectomy, I tried to reintroduce wine but and had an allergic reaction to reds and sparkling wines, nothing too serious. I seem to tolerate whites okay. I currently choose not drink much at all now, just once in a while and only a few sips at a time; which is saddening because I llve near several wineries and vineyards (a used-to-be favorite weekend pastime for me and my husband).

Thanks for the advice Maggie I don't have an ostomy but I was diagnosed with chrons or diverticulitis in 2019 they wanted me to do a colonoscopy but I freaked out and no checkups since. I fear doctors and hospitals and have massive anxiety I'm a raging alcoholic and have no stop button! I need help! Any advice? I had a flareup about 3 days ago and I'm still sore. No blood this time though so that's a plus

Dehydration sucks ... If I get dehydrated, I have a 75% chance of getting a small bowel obstruction :( I can't physically get drunk. That's a good thing since alcoholism runs in our family. At 14, I told myself that the first time I get drunk, I won't ever drink again. Didn't have to worry about that. Found out from my dad the day before I got my ostomy that I apparently take after my aunt. She couldn't get drunk either.

I was a married mom at 18, on my own. I didn't drink because I wasn't 211. I went to Montreal for the weekend at 19, and did drink because it was legal at 18 there, then came home, hosted a holiday party, and didn't drink in my own home because I was under 21, age here. My mom said, "We thought we were strict, but you came out stricter than us." 🤣🤣

Beer I mean it in my case is kinda mild but I guess actually the more I think about it, I mean I don't have chrons, mabye ibs which is sort of self inflicted as I eat crap, just garbage food, but beer curdles my stomach, rum burns tho on the way down for me, it's like hand sanitiser a little bit vodca, straight, just NO 😂😂😂 but bless you Maggie mine can go a bit haywire too but it's just a fraction of what you experience I'm sure

As someone with a colon... i can say... my output gets watery and faster with alcohol aswell haha. Thats happens to maaaany people anyway! so jeah i can imagine that be the case with an ostomy too! and its illiegal to drink until 21?! :0 wow. we are cleared for beer and wine from 16 and hard drinks 18... and although i think drinking can be dangerous young people will try it eventually and i have it rather safe and them not hiding ...i even hope my son one day will have his first beer at home so that we can talk about it and stuff. I love alcohol free variants of beverages like beer prosecco or even wine! there is a club in Berlin (Germany) that is alcohol free so that you do not feel left out if everyone else is hammered. i like that! in my family therr were some alcoholics and the ex wife of my husband also... so we watch how much we drink anyway

This just happened to me on fourth of July weekend. I drank about 2/3 of a Truly over the course of about 4 hours. I was dying for about 3 days. Everything I ate or drank burned, even safe foods. And my BMs were just awful. Ive never been a big fan of alcohol but I always wonder if part of it is because of the Crohn's. I was diagnosed at 17 so I've never known what alcohol feels like without it.

@@becca8066 Is it only swollen stomach and tummy pain, or other stuff? Only asking because my daughter had been getting sore stomach, like sore to touch and push on pain, not upset. Bloating, nausea, for about 8-9 months, doctors did all kinds of blood work, scopes, fecal tests, etc etc etc and were finding nothing. She tried different meds, ppis, those didn't work. They said they found no inflammation either, although her symptoms matched close to gastritis.
