30 seconds into the first song and Isbell is already bending strings; by 50 seconds in (@ 1:55) he's ripping. And obviously keeping their daydrinking to just one or maybe twenty drinks before the gig. I came late to DBT and didn't realize how good the live shows from this iteration are. This is fucking gold.

2020 ... um, not so fast there, pal. DBT is still great. Cooley and Hood and Easy B kick ass and take names. Love Isbell , but he's over his own awesomeness now, which is a very good thing.

@@klimtklavier Agree 100%. Jason was with the band for 6 years. They did some amazing things together but despite some of the memorable live shows they were not good for each others' health. Jason was literally killing himself with alcohol, etc so they went their separate ways. In the end it was a good move for everyone. Jason is a musical force and the Truckers are still writing and performing excellent music. wow just that first song, what a cool act they have! I like that they're focused on the vibe and the songs rather than trying to dress real pretty and play up for the high-end crowd. Flanking the lead singer with duel guitarists/background vocalists makes for a nice dynamic. And then the badass bass chick just attending to business, holding down the low end.

Lookout Mountain is probably my favorite song to see them perform live just for the heavy groove, even though I pretty much don't have a favorite DBT song. Anyway, it's funny to see it as an opener.. @@andrewblanton5397 The Truckers were on another level from 2000 to 2005, even BEFORE Isbell joined. Isbell wasn’t on Southern Rock Opera, and those are some of their greatest songs. Decoration Day and The Dirty South made it so The Truckers had 3 masterworks in a row. They were up there with the greatest bands of their day. Everything after that is just a bonus. And it was nice to see Jason clean up and continue forward. I always assumed he left to start a solo career, but I found out a couple years back that he was fired. At first, they wanted him to take a break to get clean, but then they fired him. And I’m glad that they’ve stayed friends. Cooley-Hood-Isbell-Tucker-Morgan --- this was their best incarnation.

@toterola4518 жыл бұрын
+Drew Nucatola, not taking anything away from the DBT, but Jason has evolved from a hotshot guitar player (in a cult favorite band) into being universally recognized as one of the finest young singer/songwriters in the world. Have you listened to "Southeastern" and "Something More Than Free"? They are just perfect collections of songs. The kid plays guitar like Derek Trucks, sings really well, and writes "master level" songs, all while defying classification. Not any mean feat, all that.

+Jay Wright I misspoke. by sound out of tune I actually meant go out of tune. I covered dbt in an old band. dunno what it was. had ok tuners. American guitars but we went out a lot. just my experience. the strings flopping around. I even would use thicker gauge strings etc. no dice. also. I'm not sure how much guitar tech'ing goes on with dbt. I recently saw a rig rundown with Cooley. kinda got the feeling they did their own stuff.
