Unequivocally the best rock band in the world during this run....the music and the songwriting just speaks for itself.

No one sounds like these guys. So rockin' raw. Great vocals, songwriting. I love tornadoes and women whiskey.

Had to have this to get that kinda thing imo. Youth and all the factors are on display but far from anything than greatness. Been into the truckers magic rock show since 2001-2002. I do think after countless shows live I really appreciate their albums and the clean sound quality vs the super loud ,raw ,and distortion level. Such a great yet underrated band and dedicated cult following. Representing Athens, Ga and the southern thing.

I'm happy that Isbell has gotten his life together and found a lot of success, but I miss this era of him musically. I prefer his raw, rock-oriented sound over what he does now (which isn't to say that I don't his enjoy his more recent work as well).

This is my sound man Ricks favorite band. Bout 10 years older. Neil Young 70s guy. Huge influence he’s been on us. He won trivia tickets to see the Truckers tape on Austin City Limits. He’s turned me on to the realist music of my life.

I’m def ready to hit that town. We should all meet for South by Southwest some day. My oldest friend Brett and his wife come down from the East to go yearly. I never been. Dying to go back to Austin .

This was when they were on a (so called) purple patch. My first gig was just under a year later when Shonna took over....unforgettable.

Man Isbell was messed up here. Getting kicked out of DBT was the best thing that ever happened to him.
@mitchweber24233 жыл бұрын
I know I’m a few years behind on this post but Isbell was a mess in his early 20’s when he joined a band like DBT. He also helped them make the 2 best albums they’ve ever put out. Even a mess he could play guitar like an animal. I appreciate the beginnings. I think he would even admit that he needed his DBT days. Cooley and Hood are doing just fine. Just where they all wanna be.

Look at how young Cooley and Patterson look! Jason was only 24 or so at this point, and it's pre-Shonna. I saw this iteration of DBT at the Troubadour in L.A. in the summer of 2003 and was hooked instantly. I loved SRO and DD, but wasn't sure if they were any good live. Needless to say, I've seen them every time since they hit L.A. and just saw them a month ago. Yes, they kicked ass! America's mightiest band for 15 years running!

Yeah, he's jaw-droppingly bad here. Hard to believe he's the same dude who played one of the very best shows I've ever seen a year ago.
@wongnaichungrd6 жыл бұрын
Agree love DBT but the guitar and harmonies (Hood) sounds awful. Think he was probably totally wasted. Isbell is a class act here even when I would presume wasted. I think he's always a stellar guitarist
@chrismarcusky16 жыл бұрын
Jason Isbell is never jaw-dropping bad! Time and place. His music has evolved and his clean sound is indicative of who he now is. However, if he tried that with DBT, it wouldn't have worked. I think the rawness of this is perfect for the band and him. Writing...check. Guitar work....on point.

I don’t think you understand the whole pastiche surrounding this iteration of his songs. “Decoration Day” is probably the best example in this set. You’re constantly painting a picture with music performance, creating a vibe on which the words can hang and tell the story. In this case, you have the tale of a southerner describing a family feud unfolding over two generations minimum. Is this southerner drunk when he tells you the story? In this case, certainly. The question is if the performance is skewed that way via method acting. A great example is Tom Waits in his 70’s Lounge-Singer era. “Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis” is a good reference. Overall, you hear the true rural south being portrayed here in tone - but have to question if it’s art imitating life, or vice versa. Method acting brings these nuances forward at first - but it’s not long before you’re living as the character. We’re all aware of the alcoholism that plagued him until he straightened up, but it’s easy to discern how it could have originated. He’s an artist through and through.

Agreed! They blew the doors off the El Rey last month (2/9/18). This is also the most durable version of the band too. All current members have been there since 2012.

Best lineup this band will ever have:) Marry Me is a great opener. Seeing Jason do his thing is awesome but DBT is where he belongs. they haven't been close to being the same since he left. John Neff did a good job when he came back but since he left the band is nowhere as right.
@jonathanlee89307 жыл бұрын
The present line up is as tight as DBT has ever been. Said with all due respect to Isbell.
